Rear view mirror decorations....
Ever since they attached the rear view mirror inside, people have hung various items from them. Growing up I had a picture of me and and my girlfriend, later on my favorite football team. As I aged there was the proverbial air freshener.

In 2021 the new cars will come with mask pockets, complete with UV sterilization.

I don't have anything dangling from my mirror. I don't need the visual distraction and besides, I don't think it's legal ( although I doubt you'd get a ticket ).
It's kinda like driving with "Fluffy" in your lap. Also not legal and if you get into a fender bender and the air bag goes off, you can spend weeks trying to re-assemble "Fluffy", who is no longer fluffy.

Where is everyone putting their mask while not in use in the auto? I thought the mirror was perfect so as not to forget to use.

We don't use masks up here when road racing. We're rebels.

It's not just a distraction, it actually blocks the driver's view.

In the car I was driving to work and parking in a parkade, I stuck a hook for the parking hang-tag at the top of the windshield so the tag didn't block much more than the mirror was already blocking. I have a mount for a "dashcam" on the other side of the mirror mount, so again it's almost entirely out of my line of sight.
Fuzzy dice, hula girls, pine tree air fresheners... to me they're all great props for a car of a certain period in a show display, but none belong in a vehicle being driven on a road.

Anecdote time from Iowa Dave. I personally don’t hang anything from the mirror. BUT one time when I was about 13 and kind of a daredevil I had adopted a saying to myself each time I was going to do something stupid er daring, What’s the worst thing that could happen? So one day I jumped off of a fresh road cut from the high bank into loose dry clay about 10 feet below. I had correctly judged the softness of the landing point, knew the depth of the clay and hit exactly where I thought I would . I knew I’d sink into the loose dirt and the sensation felt good for a second until my right ankle slide across a broken whisky bottle in the dirt pile. As I pulled my foot out for an instant I could see the tendons across the two inch cut on my ankle. Then blood blocked further examination. I sent my brother home to get mom and sat down on the curb and held the skin together. About that time two guys about 20 years old drove by in a 1955 Ford. They saw the blood, stopped and backed up. They said we’re taking me to the hospital. I got in the car In the back seat with one of them. They had to turn around and head back and find my mom. In the mean time I was bleeding pretty good. The guy with me says “I need something for a tourniquet. And the driver reaches up and takes a ladies kerchief off of the rear view mirror support. He turns to my attendant and says. “ Use this, the bitch broke up with me anyway” so we found my mom and she got in the front seat. The tourniquet was pretty tight and whenever my foot started to turn blue he’d loosen it till he could see some color. I got stitched up and lived to fight another day but changed my mantra and didn’t jump where I couldn’t see again. And that’s the rear view mirror story for today from:

Two things in life I always wanted but never got were a '54 Chevy and fuzzy dice. Did however, get a suicide knob for my bike.
Great tourniquet story Dave.

Hi: cpaharley2008... I keep mine at the ready under the armrest along with my pea shooter. Seems ironic having to wear a mask to go into the bank!!! Alf

When I go to our bank which is currently drive up only, Marlene or one of my other bank girlfriends asks what they can do for me. First I say “Have you had any hearses stop in and make a withdrawal today for the guy in the back. Because he said if he couldn’t take it with him he wasn’t going.” When they say no, I say ok then give me $120 out of my savings I’m going to the liquor store and I gotta get some mower gas. Then they give me the cash and a balance ticket and away I go. I haven’t had a haircut for 5 months so the younger ones usually say “ You’re rockin a good looking do today” and I say “it’s called a geezer DA. Nothing on top and a turned up duck tail in the back.”
I spread joy and something else wherever I go. I carried a large lawn ornament out to a ladies car yesterday at the garden store. Her car was a pretty little Cadillac SUV. Only thing it didn’t have was a trailer hitch. So I didn’t give her my number.

Hi: Iowa Dave... Reminds me of the scene caused by the widow who took the suitcase full of money out of his coffin, before they closed the lid, and put in a "Post dated cheque"!!! Alf
