Shortages are showing up......

Sad to report that todays recent visit to local $1 store resulted in -0- purchases, their shelves were almost empty? Here's hoping it may only be regional vs national problems, we may be in for an interesting winter. I hope Santa Claus has already completed his shopping........

Slim Pickens

I notice supplies of some things being thin but I’m not adamant about brand loyalty, can live well with generics, and am prone to stocking up. We are freezer and dry goods people and fortunately have the ability to make at home the things we like. Have only been to the slow food places a handful of times in the past 20 months, no restaurants and no delivery foods. I was going to the grocery store a little when numbers were down, but now, call in the order and have them load it in the Highlander. Maybe too cautious but I can live with it. Was adding up my precautions in the past year and a half: 2 flu shots , pneumonia shot, shingles shots, covid shots, covid booster shot yesterday and a few shots of whisky. Standing by and living a more solitary life than usual but I’m good with that. Hope everyone is dong well and not taking unnecessary chances. As close to heaven as I’ll probably ever get, last Friday.

Q-8 log oil in red-brown from OutLast in Mississippi. Very thin and messy but soaks in quickly. Apply to point of rejection. Soapy hot water cleanup on brushes. Log are Western Red Cedar. 6X 8. D shape so flat on the interior walls.
When you coming out? The latch string is out.

Shotage

I walked through a dollar store the other day and was surprised how many empty shelves there were. My wife said there was no Scott toilet paper at the grocery store. I told her a bushel of apples a a flashlight for everyone for Christmas. There are lots of apples this year!
And hickory nuts.

Looks like it would only take a small adjustment to get closer, though.

those Dollar stores are almost entirely populated with cheap made-in-China junk, and shipping from China has been a real problem.

My brother sent me this article, which says some stores in Great Britain are putting cardboard pictures of food items on their empty shelves so it doesn't look so empty.

Cardboard, hmm....I suppose the extra fiber wouldn't hurt....

Back a few years ago when our kids were still home we ate a considerable number of frozen pizzas. When asked what they would like for dinner they often requested “cardboard pizza”. Haven’t had one in years.

You can get cooked cardboard pizzas soaked in grease at Pizza Hut.

Pizza

You guys are cracking me up. Was on the roof all day with caulk gun and paint brush. Temp about 45 wind about 25. Needed a break. But not a cardboard pizza. Pushed the extension ladder off center getting down and had to yell for help. Jake heard me and got Rita. She came out to straighten and hold the ladder. Just like Lassie and Timmy falling in the well.. Glad I played with him before I went up and that he wasn’t mad at me.

considering how simple it is to make good pizza (flour, water, yeast, tomato sauce, mozarella and maybe a bit of provolone, toppings), it is amazing how bad corporate chain pizza can be.

Dave,
You need to stay off those roofs. We just had a guy fall off his barn roof: 8 broken ribs, pelvis and nose. He is is rehab now. The only amusing thing coming out of accident was a gallon of that silver roof paint landed on him. The folks in the emergency room said he looked like the Tinman when they brought him in.
Missed you at the David Crockett Birthplace State Park gathering. Had both our E17B and our new to us 2020 E21NB there. My two daughters stayed in the 17.
Had some Cold YeeHaw for ya!
Peace!
George

It was only scary for a second, once I got my belly over the roof I knew I had it made. We were south a little ways this fall down to Table Rock near Branson Missouri for a few days but haven’t been to your fair state for two years now. Maybe next fall, I have about three more ladder setups to go and then I’ll be done for about 3 or 4 years. Hope you fine people are doing well and coming into the fall with good memories from this past summer. Stay healthy and save me a couple brews.
