Tim the tool man from Home Improvement....

One of my favorite tv shows was Tim Allen in Home Improvement, I could relate to his tool obsession.....been expanding my collection for the big trip next May to Chilliwack and Osoyoos. I know I need to get a life and stay off Amazon......btw the sockets are Channel Lock, a really nice set.

Hi Jim
I have a considerable tool inventory but only take a minimum when traveling. I really like my Escape multiple bit screwdriver and I have the equivalent in a stubby that’s a Milwaukee brand. Nothing fancy and no more weight than the bare minimum.

I do like the tool bags and have a few that I set up for “project” work at home. The 1/2 inch ratchet for the aluminum Anderson socket stays in the front box. The 1/2 inch sockets, each selected for specific nut sizes I know I could need, and my Armstrong breaker bar and 6 inch extension ride in the back hatch. I don’t carry the complete 1/2 inch set or any metrics. Has worked for me so far.

I liked the tool man show but I do not like Tim Allen’s politics or his TV attitude towards the female gender. I know it’s only a show but I do not like stereotyping.

I’m not much of an Amazon buyer. I drove 56 miles round trip on Monday to buy a pair of goatskin gloves for a Christmas present. Course I stopped in the small town grocery store across the street from where I got the gloves and bought some meat. Saw two deer in some pine trees on the way home, a doe and a young of the year “fawn”. That lasting mental image made it worth the trip to me.

Have a good weekend, and keep shopping, the GNP needs your support.

Picked this socket set up for $99 last week. The cheapest I could find this otherwise was $230. Husky, lifetime guaranteed.

This one does not come with, it stays in the shop. I have one like Jim's for the trailer. Otherwise I keep the other tools in these bags.

These socket reducers and in one case, expander, (it goes from ⅜" to ½") are handy to have. The driver attachments are critical. The other is a ⅜" adapter to ¼" hex for the 5.0's Anderson Ball Cup.

These make my socket set all the more valuable.

That Husky set is nice for $99, was it purchased on line or retail?

I carry one also. Uh, well maybe more than one. Never know when you might lose a bit. And then as backup there's a nice selection of yellow, green, red and black handled ones plus the stubbies. Can never have too many tools.

Tim Allen was funny all right but my all time favorite was Red Green. Think of him every time I use duct tape.

Yes I do, it’s a small compact standard set. Stepped out into the garage and checked the top box on my roll around. Had four more sets besides the set in the Escape. The Escape set is standard. But in the garage I have both standard and metric and the larger Ecklind set. I also have a set of the ball end in my bicycle repair bag, (which hasn’t seen the light of day since Hector was a pup.)

I find that Escape and other fiberglass folks are extremely helpful. Many times I’ve been at a rally when someone who knows me asks me If I have an uncommon tool. Then I tell them I do or know someone else who does. I’ve never seen the time a tool was a limiting factor in a repair at a rally. The Proto torque wrench is my pride and joy and I’ve torqued nuts from California to South Carolina.

Have Wrench, Will Torque wire Iowa Dave, Atkins. ( what not as famous a town as San Francisco.?)

Yah, for years I had a running joke with a friend's wife. He is a very competent handy guy. I'd phone and ask if he was handy. Oh yes, she'd say, he's very handy.

I used to enjoy the reno shows but they sure changed over the years and I stopped watching them a long time ago.

Here are a couple of pictures of some antique hand tools I still use. The first is a non battery power hand drill and the second is the first Craftsman drill made....model #1 electric drill my dad bought way back when, single speed and replaceable brushes in the motor.

This is what I do for Allen, hex heads.

Like most tool owners, I have about seven sets of Allen wrenches, some with fancy plastic holders, some in nice metal holders.

I use these on the road with the 3/8" female socket adapter and one for my driver. These are good bits. $10.

When you go to pick up your new Escape, will you have to add the Gut Wrench? (That's the promissory note with payments)

And for the Torx screws...

"It is a worthwhile project that needs a new tool" (source unknown)

I added a usb & cigarette outlet in the back of the Tacoma bed. Had to obtain a Torx wrench set - sizes 10 to 50. Successful project!

I have been considering converting the two small cubbyholes near the end of my Tacoma's truck bed into a toolbox, just so I don't have to carry an extra toolbox. To that end I bought some of those socket organizers that you can snap sockets to. I was also interested in a wrapping wrench pocket and I found this and similar ones on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Capri-Tools-W..._hp_atf_m&th=1

The Tacoma's cubbies are 14 inches long, and it's hard to tell if the wrench organizers will fit in them. It appears that the flap folds down over the wrenches, so I guess it depends upon the length of the longest wrench.

Tool wrap

Hi Mike
Here’s a couple photos of my tool wrap that holds my gear wrench combination set . 19 wrenches total standard and metric. 13 1/2 wide and deep pockets, they don’t fall out. About 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Bucket Boss brand. Heavy fabric and well sewn. Biggest Wrench is 17mm and 3/4 standard Dual straps and snaps to keep it rolled up. Hope this helps
