Weather term "fire hose"

Was mentioned yesterday to explain the effect of the 2-4" of rain we will be receiving today and tomorrow. Just looked at the recent weather radar and what does it look like, a stream of water.....new term to me.

I refer to those torrential downpours as a “frog strangler”.

On the West coast it is referred to as an Atmospheric River and can really bring a lot of rain. Sometimes it is like a wide line from Hawaii.

In Oregon, we call it the Pineapple Express.

ditto here on the central California coast. warm tropical rains, as opposed to the cold nasty stuff that blows down from Alaska.

About 20 miles south and west of us is the Iowa County seat town of Marengo Iowa. One night we went down there for dinner. It was raining real hard when we came out of the restaurant and headed home. Thousands of leopard frogs were feeding on worms and bugs under the lights at the highway intersection T north of town. I slid about 10 feet through the stop sign on a cushion of frogs. Luckily nobody was coming either way. The only time that ever happened to me. Never or toads though.

Actually it may have been frogs, I'm not an expert on amphibians like you are but had to drive through the Dismal Swamp in NC several times. It was an elevated 2 lane road surrounded by swamp land, no shoulders either. Not a pleasant drive when it was a mating season....

My Grandma used to say that and my Mom too. My Dad however, who had a farm background as well was more graphic. He’d say “Its raining like a tall cow peeing on a flat rock”. Had to be there a couple times to appreciate that one.

Jim Norman was relating running over amphibians. I was thinking about it. The amorous frog has a few drinks and decides to go our looking for a lady. On his way to the local watering hole he gets run over. He got smashed twice in one night. Kind of like Kermit the Frog meets Michelin Man.

There’s a natural reptile crossing In a forest in southern Illinois where they close the road to cars twice a year , spring and fall and people walk the road to see snakes on their migration. I’d like to see that sometime. Poisonous and non venomous species alike. How about a rally in a nearby campground called the Snake Escape. Think it would draw a crowd or would the turnout be sparse? Nothing like cup of coffee, a cruller, and a copperhead in the morning.
The information link on snake alley is listed below.

That might make some shout May Day, May Day, May Day. Have a good one and hope you and Mary Ann have a great day.

When ever the rainfall gets heavy, my Vantage Vue weather station displays "It's Raining Cats & Dogs".

That can also happen in Utah during Mormon Cricket movements. These crickets are about 2-3 inches long and at times travel in lines that stretch miles long. When they cross the road and get smashed, it does not take too long to develop a big, greasy spot on the road. I have heard this has resulted in accidents. I have only seen it happen a few times but it is something to watch out for.

Smile Seattle of the South??

Here in the greater Nashville/central TN area, we had it in spades last few days.
More severe thunderstorms Sun and again Monday night very nearby (20+ mi south of Nashville). Tornadoes Sunday night apparently too.
WE were w/o power about 20+ hours... til late Monday. We fortunately live down in a narrow valley area. Several neighbors higher up on the ridges [of our area] lost alot of trees and some had home damage. No injuries we know of.

Camped out at home in the basement, and were able to break out some of our packed-up camping gear(still awaiting our E21) to make things bearable. 3 rechargeable battery lanterns, a couple of flashlites, the battery 'weather alert' radio and then.. ;-) I fired up the 2200W camping trailer generator, hooked up a couple of the camper's extension cords and ran it some to 'save' 2 full freezers we keep. Well worth a few $$ worth of gasoline!
Reminds me of the old slogan I read awhile back..
"Campers make good Preppers".
