What happened to Winter this year?
Going to be in the 50's next week here on east coast, really has not been cold enough to even winterize the Escape? Long range is warmer than normal....

The low for the season here in Oswego in the lee of Lake Ontario was 8°F a month ago, and the night before last it got down to 17°F, but it has been warmer than usual - green grass this time of year is unusual for Oswego.
I blame it on me being stuck in Oswego rather than Quartzsite, AZ, so for those that don't like the snow & cold, thank me!

Mild here (for January) the last few weeks, but we had some weeks in December that would have busted our pipes if I hadn't winterized the Escape. Don't count your chickens yet—there's still February to get through.

My Dad referenced everything relative to cold from two winters. The earliest was the winter of 1936 which still holds records for snow and low temps in our area in Eastern Iowa. Dad worked as a hired hand for farmers and was about 19 years old in 1936.
Second the winter of 1944-1945 when he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Again snow and very cold temperatures and many ill equipped GIs. Knowing his geography and some history from the World War One battle “Battle of the Ardennes” in Germany he had written to my mother in mid fall and while mail service was spotty, it was good enough to get a package to him which contained some heavy wool socks, a set of wool underwear and the much needed sheepskin lined, zip up the front, rubber boots. Saved him from frozen feet as he hauled gasoline to the tankers, including Lafayette Pool and “In the Mood.”
So when he would say to me on a 30 degree January day “Every one of these easy days counts off” I took it to heart and still say that when we are having a mild spell or an overall mild winter. And I take stock on how fortunate I have been.

We just had our third big snowfall in two weeks here; it is most definitely wintertime. I burned through my second tank of gas already in my snowblower which is even more amazing considering we had no snow on the ground just before Xmas! It's Mother Nature catching up - I am ready to leave!!

Ah, Jim, we have winter in Minnesota. Snow and freezing rain and snow and freezing rain and.... I'm tempted to offer our driveway as a 4-season camping test site. Please bring skates and shovels. 15 amp service available. Forget the solar. On top of the solar panels on the NE, 3/8" rubber gym mat. On the sides and edges, pool noodles. Then bungee cords to tie it all down, and finally, the trailer cover. On top of the the cover, 1/2 an inch of ice under 14 inches or so of snow that's been compacted. I removed the snow and much of the ice, for the second time. Photos attached.

No thanks Darrell on your offer to camp with skates and shovel. We've had our usual winter here but no freezing rain, in fact it's barely snowed in a month. We couldn't move the trailer anyway now having finally received our new truck yesterday and need rails installed.
Looking forward to meeting you when you come to DC. Beth's pneumonia has cleared up and we're off to Mexico tomorrow.

meanwhile, here on the midleft coast, we got our average annual rainfall in a couple weeks of december/january. massive flooding, king tides, oh boy. and feb/march are yet to come, they are often the wettest months of the year.

There’s so many burn bans for our SW trip, we are leaving the fire stuff, marshmallows, and Dutch oven at home this time.

Barely a flake of snow here(haven't had any to speak of for a few years). But we got down to 0 Christmas Eve. Duke Energy texted to cut power or it WOULD BE cut. I turned the heat down & went to bed. A friend lost their pipes, as they were turned off. Waterline only buried 18"(code here!), Mine is lower.

Yeah, definitely much warmer than usual in Virginia. Apart from one very cold week, we've barely dipped below freezing. Apparently, it's La Niña bringing the warm winter weather.

Iowa Dave was supposed to keep the white stuff off the roads while I’m here in SE Iowa for work but I guess he couldn’t make it to all the roads I was on today.

I used a pusher to clear my driveway today. It took about 30 easy minutes. The Highlander stayed in the barn so I didn’t get down your way to take care of the snow. I was pretty busy inventorying my fishing rods and reels and cleaned and straightened up my corded Sawzall and all the blades. Talked to a guy I graduated from high school with and haven’t seen for 57 years.
Ran the dog. Studied camping in SW Missouri maybe the spring. Busy day for this old guy.
