No dogs or cats here, so she's either talking to me or herself. LOL

My wife of 41 years likes to talk to me from another room. I constantly tell her I can barely hear you when we’re in the same room.

Mine does the same and when I ask her to repeat, she says, "I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to the toaster."

Not commenting as neither one of us hears that well. And it goes down hill from there. Patience, understanding and increased volume are sometimes necessary. Huh? What?
“I gotta shut this mower off.” Etc.

the balance between talking and listening is precarious at the best of times...I need to be a better listener

Yea but that’s the inflection you were born with. You can’t help that or fix it with little batteries in your ears. Have a great weekend Alf.

I've had to give in to the fact that my hearing has gotten worse so have an appointment at Costco to get those little assistants.

Let me know how that works out. I used to hunt squirrels by listening for claws on bark but alas, that skill has left the building.

I finally got fitted for hearing aids a few months ago, a huge improvement in hearing comprehension which facilitates better listening.

I knew my hearing had degraded but had no real idea how much I was struggling to understand, and often misinterpreting, certain speech (lack of ability to distinguish hard consonants in particular), the difference is amazing, wish I'd done it sooner than later

The whole experience has been as (positively) life-altering as getting fitted with eyeglasses, modern sensory aids are just wonderful!

Hi: emers382... My Gran had a hearing aid but never turned it on to conserve the batteries. I still don't know how she could hear the cookie jar lid close during an after school raid. Alf

I didn't know I needed hearing aids until the VA tested me and fixed me up with a pair of them. When I picked them up, I couldn't tell much difference in the clinic. When I went out to my truck(diesel) and started it up I was shocked. What the H___ is that racket!

Reminds me of the story where the guy buys a new chainsaw and takes it home. Next day he’s back in the shop and tells the the shop owner something isn’t right. He could only cut about half as much wood as he cut with his hand saw. Shop owner takes the chainsaw in hand and pulls the starter rope. Saw fires up on the first pull.
Customer yells out “What’s that noise?”

Hey, while I’m at it, Where does the gingerbread man sleep? On a cookie sheet.
