Winter is not happening.....

Just checked the 90 day long range forecasts for the mid-atlantic area and there are not any snow storms nor accumulating snow predicted?? Several days over the next will be in the 50's and very few below freezing? Can not have snow in this type of weather. I'm concerned with the impact on the animals, particularly those that need cold weather to survive. Warm winter means a hot summer and fires, something I do not want to see repeated. For what ever the reason as to what may be the cause, I'm at lost as to how to stop it as it is a global issue.

In the horticultural world, we always liked to see about two weeks of very cold temps with no snow on the ground. That really helped knock down overwintering pests, especially invasives from the south of us. 35 years ago we only knew about armadillos in the Deep South including Texas and Oklahoma. There are some showing up as road kills as far north as Fairfield, Iowa now. Growing up, we had our choice of 17 ice rinks to skate on, gone is the interest in skating and it’s probably a good thing because flooded ice rinks can’t be done in 35 degree weather without refrigeration. We had three 100 year flood events and one 500 year flood event in 10 years, 2008 through 2018. Do what you can locally, the problem is not going away anytime soon. Happy New Year and recycle those Dom bottles.

This morning we woke up to -12 deg but by the end of the week we are predicted to have temps in the mid 30’s . Looking at the long range forecast it’s going to stay Spring like for the foreseeable future
I long for the winters of my youth , real cold , real snow , really fun !

Me too! BUT, I want the young body that went along with that weather. I don't see that ever happening again. Now I'd prefer the minimum daytime temps to equal my age.

I guess I am the odd duck . If it never got warmer than 70 degs I would be one happy fellow
My favorite season is fall with highs in the 50’s and lows in the 40’s
Like many retired people in the North when we first retired we went South in the Winter
After a few years we stopped going , we didn’t enjoy the heat and humidity and missed seeing snow and our family .
Why drive 2000 miles so you can sit in 100 sq ft trailer with the A/C running cause it’s too hot and humid to do anything . We can do the same thing at home in reverse.
Well , at least that was our logic for just staying home .
We are already planning an early Spring trip to the UP of Michigan , we want to go before it gets too hot !!

Happy New Years

Not so odd, or at least not the only odd one. Making plans for Georgia next Jan-Mar. We'll be happy if we can just get out walking everyday, which we don't do when we stay home in the winter. Hopefully GA doesn't become the new south FL next year.

Amicalola Falls State Park in Northern Georgia is a great place to camp in February and March
Beautiful scenery , water falls , nice campgrounds , hiking trails and great weather .
We much prefer Georgia over Florida , a much more moderate climate

Here, it's 53°F db / 25° wb, 25% R.H. with a 20 mph wind/gusts to 40 mph from the east. I guess that's to be expected, because we're only 80 miles NW of the Rose parade, and they always order rain-free sunny weather. (They forgot to tell mother nature the desired temp and wind condition, and mother nature, who can't be fooled, and has a sly sense of humor, complied!).

You know, if you openly admit it, it takes away the fun from others wishing to be accusatory.

I would have thought with the bounce that girl has, that she would hardly ever be on the ground in it.

I hope you all down south will warm it up a bit in a couple weeks. Our tentative departure date is Jan 12, and that is when the snow is starting between Helena and Butte. Oh well, we will take it easy and make it at a safe pace.

Gertie sends her condolances to Josie. Her humans insist on putting on her jacket with the silly fake pockets that everyone says is so cute.

Not that cold, except for chihuahua's without much hair. Kids are playing street hockey in their shirts, adults seem to like having a jacket on.

Happy New Year everyone, hope to see lots of you on the road.

Ron
