WoW! Down unders have nice caravans!
I was looking at the Colorado mirrors made in Australia and somehow ended up looking at offroad trailers made by Kendron.
Welcome to Kedron Caravans | KEDRON CARAVANS | Glen Gall
And then looked at how they are used.

I suspect the Kendron is a very high end trailer. Galvanized frame, full airbag suspension. Ability to use the airbags to level it. Washing machine option (??) the fit and finish and all else seemed incredible.

Too bad their door is on the wrong side...also their trailers go off roading really well, I think the Gall Brothers have some good videos.

Went looking for a Top Gear Australia caravan video, but couldn't find it.
I did find this:

I've followed the European Caravans for years... then subscribed to a travel trailer magazine, founded and printed in Australia for even more years.... you know that fiberglass-all-molded towables have been available in Europe AND Australia for far longer than in the North America.. right? Lots of people are under the assumption that Ray Olecko was a pioneer (Boler) because he built the first NA all-molded towable based on a septic tank. I won't argue with that... but truthfully, I think he only used the shape... not the idea. For instance, check out the Murrumba Star: The caravan born in the Space Age | Time To Roam
Here's even a better link, check the pics of the Murrumba Star from 2008 about 1/4 of the way down the page http://vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/2612

They have quite the caravans and all towed with smaller trucks but most are diesel powered.
This is a set up my wife and I saw last year on the east coast above Perth. This was an insane set up, between the truck and the trailer he had a 250cc dirt bike.

1 USD = 1.33 CAD
1 USD = 1.31 AUS
wonder if those trailers fit in a shipping container....
ocean shipping cost appears to be <= NW to east coast by truck delivery!

I think you had it right the first time. In the Southern Hemisphere, east and west are reversed relative to the northern hemisphere.

My first experience with caravans and camping was in Australia. Cathy and I flew to Sydney and rented a caravan on a Toyota chassis. A nerve racking experience getting out of Sydney driving on the left side of the road. There were caravan parks everywhere and they all had swimming pools. After 3 weeks with a big loop on the east coast, we headed to New Zealand and after a week there flew to Perth. Did a big loop there and celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary on the shores of the Indian ocean. It was a trip of a lifetime. The Alcan highway and Alaska is stamped on the calander for next year. And Perth is located in Eastern Australia?
Love the RV/Camping mentality in both Australia and New Zealand. NZ must hold the title as the most camper friendly camper culture in the world with their "Free Camping" policy.
