in search for a 2017 or newer 21ft escape

Hello everyone, Me and my wife and soon to be newborn baby are planning to move into a trailer this summer and tour around the west coast climbing and enjoying the great outdoors.

We are hoping to find a used 21 ft escape in BC or Alberta. fingures crossed as i know is rare to find used ones.

we would love the oven modification but its not a deal breaker

You might want to keep checking Fiberglass RV's For Sale - Escape Travel Trailers (in addition to this forum, of course). It's a collector of ads from other sources. There's only one listing there at the moment (and it's a 21'), but there are never many available at a time.

Welcome, Tyler and Heather. not sure if you have seen any Escapes, but there will be maybe 150 at Osoyoos, BC May 23-26 for a rally. Get to see a whole bunch and get some ideas. BTW, your camping plan is commendable, particularly if this is your first born......

Escape started building the new model 21 in 2016 Which we picked it up the end of Oct. and it's a 2016 . We thought we were getting a 2017 but opted to get the trailer 2 months early and so its a 2016 . The earlier escape 21's are called ((2011?-2016) are called Classics .

Yes it is a bit out of the normal new born operating procedures, Although me and my wife spent many years living in a converted astro van, then we spent the last few years living the normal life with 9-5 office jobs and a house.

were hoping that the move back to our nomadic routes will take away some of the challanges that new parents have IE. time. as living on the road will give us more quality time with our child and we will be able to spend less time maintaining a house and a demanding job. will let ya know how it goes

I prefer to call them 1stG for the period pre September 2016 and then 2ndG models, post Sept 2016, so some 2016 are 1stG or 2ndG models, depending on when it was hatched.

The term Classic is appropriate as the design from 2003 through 2016 had the same lines and "aircraft" door- and they ain't making any more of 'em!

Steve , I note that you have a "21' and you are pulling it with a Ford Explorer V6 - does it work well for you ?

I have a 2018 Toyota V6 with tow package ( GVWR 6800). And I am contemplating getting a 19' trailer or even a 5.0 Escape . Any thoughts?

If one were to really explore this forum it is plain that for a 21 or 5.0TA of either generation or Gen2 19 the consensus is Go Big with torque. Unless you are mostly towing in say FLA or you don't mind hearing the engine rev up past 4K. Plus- you won't get better gas mileage with that V6 gas engine towing. Lots here who tried it and traded in.

Disclaimer- in no way am I trying to disparage any of you who are currently towing "just fine" a 21, 5.0TA or Gen2 19 with Explorer(non ecoboost) Highlander, Pilot, Santa Fe, Ridgeline, MDX(Los Angeles) or Frontier. Some have to use what they have, however for those seeking advice before buying a tow vehicle I would say better to buy gently used more torque than new you could regret.

Hi Dmmsix, Yes, our non eco-boost V6 Explorer works great for us. It is our primary vehicle. Non-towing we get combined 22 mpg (city/highway) and towing we average 15.2 mpg. This is over 28,000 miles towing in the lower 48. We have been cross-country twice; to New Hampshire in 2016 and the Outerbanks of North Carolina in 2017. Last year we spent 3 weeks touring Yellowstone, The Grand Tetons and Glacier National Parks. Our normal speed is 60 mph, and we maintain the speed limit up all the mountain passes.
As Ross mentioned, up a high altitude 8% + grade, we are at 4000 rpm at 55 mph. Not a problem!
We do have the 1st generation 21, fully loaded about 4150 lbs.. I have not towed a 2nd generation 21, but would have no reservations about towing a fully loaded 2nd generation 19, as the weight would be equal to or less than our 21. If you are considering a 19, I would not hesitate with your Toyota.
One of the primary reasons we originally looked at Escape, was the ability and freedom to tow with our daily driver. We are not disappointed in any way. We have 91,000 miles on our V6 and hope to get at least another 90,000 miles. If I were buying a new tow vehicle today, I would buy another V6. I have considered eco-boost, and may again in the future. But today I have no reason to change.
Good Luck! The 19 and 5.0TA are two wonderful choices!
