Yah I guess it doesn’t matter. Happy to have the borders open again, though. Hope the US follows suit.

I can do without the 'orientation' but I would enjoy the opportunity to visit the factory the day before hand-off of my 5.0 in Sumas to
  • DIY install my Andersen coupler-block, hitch the rig, and make any ball-height adjustments that might be appropriate
  • Do a walk-around inspection and verify that the many 'loose / supply only' items on my particular build-sheet are indeed packed in the trailer
  • Personally meet and thank my configuration specialist who has been a paragon of patience and support
Whether or not the respective government requirements would facilitate that, and as importantly whether ETI would facilitate that, remains to be seen. IF that could happen I'd likely change my arrangements from delivery to Denton, TX, to pick-up in Sumas.

My GCD is August 18, we'll just have to see how things play-out as that date approaches and I correspond with ETI about the possibilities. No worries in any case!

Alan- I think it is always best to go up and pick up if one has the time for a lot of reasons. Hopefully ETI doesn't punt on the opportunity to have customers visit the factory and inspect their trailers as was always the case before 3/2020.

Maybe push out the date to after Labor Day for an opportunity for a site at Birch Bay or Bay View S.P. Kinda special for those who have been there after pickup.

Maybe give them a call. Canadians can still pick up at the factory (I live in Vancouver area so that's what I'll be doing...and I will be checking the things you listed above). You'd have to get tested and fill in the ArriveCan app, etc. Good luck. Exciting to get your new trailer.

Been there, thanks ETI, done that. But, would really like to go see upper British Columbia again. That's where it's really at.

Thanks for the comments and best wishes.

Yes, I initiated an email correspondence with Karl on this topic yesterday, we'll see what things look like from his end. Then there's the USA-side of the border regs, which are still 'TBD' at the moment.

So, as I said, we'll just have to see how the regulations, policies, and logistics play-out for my particular situation, and in any case none of this is putting a damper on the excitement and inevitability of getting my new 5.0.

But yes, it's great that Canada has kicked things off with their most recent announcement, a first step toward making crossing possible ....

EDIT - reply from ETI just received:
Hello Alan,

Thank you for the message. You may be aware that yesterday the Canadian government announced that it would open the border to fully vaccinated US citizens and permanent residents with effect from August 9th. As such, we are delighted to be able to welcome our US customers to our facility once more. Its worth noting that we are not offering full orientations at this time, but you are certainly welcome to view your trailer prior to export. Also, with a pre-booked appointment, we would be happy to provide any assistance you may require with regard to hitch set up, plus basic assistance and familiarization regarding trailer functionality. .... [continues with personal matters]
