Cool!

Here the library is calling seniors but nobody has called me!

I did score a lb of yeast on Amazon but not to arrive for another couple of weeks. Out of stock already, though. I haven't seen it in the store for two months, used up what I had, and a friend sent me some packets so I am okay for awhile. (Need it for that pizza dough!) Flour has become more available recently. Although I find it amusing that gluten free flour is widely available and has been all along. I know some people really have gluten intolerance but I guess the rest have figured out they really don't!

I'm grateful that gluten-free flour and other GF products are still available on the shelves of my own grocery store, as I was diagnosed with celiac disease in March 2019. I might resent those who don't NEED to eat gluten-free for reaching for GF products now if not for the fact that the "gluten-free craze" created a market which now includes lots of GF options, and I'm definitely benefitting from that. This morning I made bacon, eggs, and GF pancakes with pure maple syrup. Yum!

That's true- I have friends (and a cousin) with celiac and one with a neuro form of gluten intolerance and they can find all kinds of things that used to be hard to find, plus restaurants usually have options. One of our local stores has a huge section of stuff. I just think it is amusing that nobody seems to be hoarding those things.

Not exactly cooking, but according to Yelp. These are most popular pandemic food delivery orders by state.

I don't know if West Virginia makes them differently, but do a Google search for Bao buns & you find lots off suggested uses. Looks like a steamed dough. These look good.

Our local grocery store had pork spare ribs on sale for $1.48 / lb
I bought 6 racks ( About 25 lbs) , slow smoked them in our smoker and then vacuum sealed them .
Hopefully we will get to go camping and sit down to a nice meal of ribs this year
We are looking forward to 2021 and the Jim Norman - Spam rally

So the pork ribs are so you don't have to eat Spam?

No Bobbie , we actually like Spam but Spam wasn’t on sale
This coming week chicken is on sale and I can envision making a large kettle ( 5 gallons )of chicken soup .
As soon as pork shoulder is available and the price comes down , we will be making sausage ( Bratwurst - Italian - Breakfast - Chorizo )
Now if Jim Norman will teach me how to make Scrapple, I will be one happy guy !

I would go to a Spam rally if it were actually a smoked pork shoulder and rib rally.

Name the Norman Rally

When Jim puts this rally on, it must have a catchy name. I will donate a nice package of Czech Jatenice ( yee thur knit zee) to the person who comes up with a name for this rally that is agreed by the prospective participants to be the “catchiest” name. Phrases such as heart attack ack ack and blocked artery party will disqualify the entrant. WARNING: this rally could gain cult following status in a short period of time so an adequately sized campground needs to be chosen. I think all cuts from a hog should be allowed as entries.
That said, my early entry is “ The Pork on a Fork Rally”

I guess the old military mess hall phrase "choke and puke" would not work? I think a location needs to be decided and work that into the spam, scrapple, pork roll, jaternice, ribs, poutine, must have a doctors script to attend event or not be too far from a hospital location.

Hi Steve
Do not forget pickled ham and jowl bacon and yes to all but smoked spam. Guess I’ll have to get my little smoker out and some apple wood from trimming the orchard.
