I'm a young guy - first of the baby boom in '48. Went in for a "minor" gallbladder removal last year. Woke up in a different hospital where they told me a mistake had been made and it would take 2 more surgeries to put me back together. That was 18 months ago. Well, they succeeded and last week I went hiking 3 times for about 30 miles and actually managed to catch a respectable number of trout. Yeah, it took a while to get back to "normal" but I had a fishy incentive.
One suggestion: After being gutted like a fish - it hurts. Don't play hero and skimp on the pain meds. Yeah, you might become addicted but a week or two of will power and that will be history. Take them as prescribed and don't do any pull-ups just 'cause you feel good.

Jim, A long time friend of ours (about your age at the time of the procedure) underwent the Whipple procedure about 5 years ago and is doing very well. Good luck to you as well.

Jim, I'm just a whippersnapper (1952 model) and I don't often contribute. Haven't felt the need when people like you are so eloquently teaching and providing a keen voice of reason to this forum. I have admired you for being so self possessed. Yes, by all means get your ship in order in case there is a change of command. But remember it is your ship right now. Command.

Was on the back porch sitting with my morning coffee, watching the hummingbirds feed at the feeder. Plenty of opportunity for several hummers to be feeding there. But, one was particularly aggressive, and kept intensely attacking the other one, until it was driven away.
I keep the Weber baby Q on a table out the back porch with the lid always open. I do that because otherwise it becomes a great place for field mice to create a nest. It’s the rainy season here now and we get brief but windy thunderstorms in the afternoons. So last week I closed the Weber lid.
This morning I was on the porch and I opened the lid. Hadn't used it for awhile so figured I would clean the grill. There, sheltering in place, was a mother mouse and her big mouse nest, with babies.
Life is strange.

Hi Myron
Collected and frozen in empty prescription bottles those mice make a fine attractor in the old standard the “dirt hole set” for coyotes. There is a market for them from professional coyote
control men @ about $15 a gallon. I do not like mice or voles even though they may be a key component of the ecosystem and I trap them out year round.

Jim, I’m new to the Escape forum but already you have helped me out, thank you. I’m a 1957 model and was diagnosed last fall with a rare disease which was not found until my third Dr opinion/diagnoses. Please try to stay mentally strong, we pray for you and modern meds to help you thru...
