The NY Times published a really nice article today that is worth looking at. I am a population ecologist with, yeah, a PhD and a graduate degree in statistics. The authors do not editorialize, just present data and a small bit of commentary. My take? We're not out of the woods, but this is data-driven and is hopeful.

"Dr. Fauci concedes coronavirus death rate like 'very bad flu'.....
Co-authors medical journal article: 'considerably less than 0.1%'....."

Note: This editorial was published Feb 28th. Considerably more is known now a month later. I personally put more value on recent research.

You need to read to the bottom, not just the headlines or link date.

I have no idea what you are trying to say.
The image is from the bottom of the document that is linked.

whether the death rate is 1% or 0.5% or 3% whats scary is, this thing is super contagious.
any casual attempts at deriving a death rate from the current stats fail to understand that deaths occur on the average of about 30 days after exposure.

My main goal in life right now is to stay alive and keep from getting this thing. For me, it became real when I learned that 2 of my close friends were diagnosed last week. These folks live in North Dakota, which has one of the lower infection rates in the US. They have no idea how they got it, as they had been following all recommendations for social distancing for over 2 weeks. That scares the heck out of me. Regardless of death rate, this thing appears to be incredibly contagious. We had wonderful plans to take our 19 out camping in April, trips I had been looking forward to for months, but guess what, those trips are on hold now. I live in rural central Idaho in probably one of the safest places on earth, and even I'm taking it seriously!!! I want to be alive to enjoy life for many years to come, and I sure as heck don't want to end up sick for 3 weeks or worse, in a hospital on a ventilator. Giving up my freedom for a few weeks or months now to ensure I'm here in the future is more than worth it.
Plus I worry so about all the health care providers who can't stay home, who can't ever feel safe, and who are sacrificing themselves for all of the rest of us. For sure I don't want to add to the problem!! If we'd all just STAY PUT in our homes for three weeks, the thing would be squashed, and we could safely get out there again!
