New British Columbia travel restrictions

BC Premier John Horgan says new travel restrictions are coming to reduce the movement of people and prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Horgan said the province has been working with the tourism industry to reject bookings from people travelling outside their local areas.
He said he's confident tourism businesses will comply, but the province is prepared to enforce new orders if they don't.
Solicitor General Mike Farnworth is drafting orders to further restrict travel, Horgan added, to stop people from leaving their health authority for non-essential reasons.
He said random audits of travellers will be made to make sure people are complying with rules and BC Ferries is going to stop taking booking for people with recreational vehicles.
Signs will be placed along the B.C.-Alberta border to remind travellers that they shouldn't be coming to B.C. unless it is for essential reasons.
People with camp reservations that must be cancelled will be reimbursed.

I expect you have a legitimate reason to travel, at least as much as a semi hauling ketchup potato chips.

It wasn't a legit reason to cross into Canada, so wanna bet?

They should just open up and let you sneak over here for vaccines.

This has been on our newscasts as well. We did expect something restrictive would be coming along but we were hoping it might just be 2-3 weeks ( with the case numbers going down of course). Our reservations start in BC ( traveling west from Calgary) May 26th, ferry reservation May 27th - so not looking great for us once again , but we'll wait before we start another round of cancellations. We're more inclined to say " don't like, should've been sooner so it could've ended sooner"......... so our Health Care system isn't overwhelmed.......

My take on RV travel is that RV travellers are usually more self-contained than someone in a car who has to eat out and stay in a hotel or with relatives. Luckily our early camping reservations are within Fraser Health region, we might not be affected unless dates are extended. I understand the need to stop Covid transmission, but the only additional transmission risk for us might be at a self-serve gas station or dump station en route, as we would take all of our supplies, and normally keep to ourselves while camping. Not a lot different from staying at home.

Alaska is offering free vaccinations for travelers .... or at least our Govenor is trying. Never mind the two week delay in getting your immune system up and running.

It's a good thing that we have family here since we now cannot travel to either our daughter and family in KS, nor can we go just east into Ontario to see our son and family there since the police will allow entry into that province only if you have an "essential" reason for entering the province. Cottagers just across the border can now only visit their property if it needs emergency repairs. Many Manitobans have cottages just inside Ontario.

An interesting predicament.

I said a year ago that the response (or lack thereof) to this pandemic would stretch out to longer than a year, and more likely 2 to 3 years. That was before the variants surfaced.

Thankfully, living here on Vancouver Island allows us to travel (at this point) within our Island Health bubble...but even that may change. As for vaccinations...this old sheepdog got his rabies shot yesterday. Hoorah.

We are never going back to normal and travel restrictions are here to stay, forever and ever. Just my prediction, not that I'm happy about it.

my nursing home is experiencing an out break its amazing how it spreads we are all wearing n95 masks, shields, gloves ,gowns social distancing, isolation etc.... and yet it spreads- crazy contagious and 85% of my staff/residents are vaccinated. Most of the positives are not vaccinated. It is so contagious. Lucky some of the new treatments work very well so no one is ventilated.

Note: several posts have been deleted/edited. Please do discuss travel restrictions related to the pandemic. But if folks insist on making it a political argument, we'll delete posts or close threads.

Seeing graphs usually helps to put things into perspective.

This is current for Canada today. I want to get up there too, but not if I bring problems with me. Bummer!

Yep, looks like my trip to Alaska is off for 2021. I'll try again, maybe next year. Oh well.

Delivery date in restricted period - British Columbia

We slipped our delivery date to just after the BC restrictions are lifted to make life easier.

As we researched the rules and spoke with the public service in BC, they thought that the pick up of a trailer was commercial/business activity and would be acceptable even under restriction as it wasn't 'recreational'. We were advised to carry our delivery paperwork with us in case we were stopped.

The pre-pick up hotel we had booked was ok with us staying or extending. BC Hoteliers have said there won't be a standard practice for its membership.

The campground we had booked post-pick up cancelled our reservation, and BC shut down out of province camping in provincial and Crown areas.

If the restrictions continue past 25 May, we're assuming we will not be allowed to camp (in spite of that being a really safe mode of travel) in British Columbia. So it will be a morning pick up followed by a direct drive back to Alberta, where we are resident and allowed to camp. About 11 hours so not a super-human task (but an interesting first introduction to towing a fifth wheel).

More concerned about our TV getting keyed in the parking lot the night before pick up. May look to rent a BC licence plate for one night .

I have a Washington plate that came with our new to us 5.0, could send that to you but likely be more chance of getting keyed
