Sadly your prediction may well be true . We were hoping things would be going in the other direction by now and we tried to do our part by following the CDC’s guidelines but I guess not going to the beach or the bar is too much of a sacrifice for many .
Right now we are seriously lacking many things , two of which are a vaccine and leadership.

I have been out on I-80 thru Wyoming and of course all thru Colorado lately.

The thing that concerns me is consistency. There is none of it. Some campgrounds are open, most are not. The primitive USFS campgrounds seem to be the most available right now. Open range camping is probably best where you can find it. It is still available.

Anything reservable is now gone! You have to count on walk in, non reservable sites now. The thing that rattles me more than anything is this strange vibe going thru everything right now. Everybody wants to get out. There is a lot of freaky behavior coming out now. And as has been pointed out here already, getting harder and harder to listen to.

We do have some reservations for this month, but they are very close to home and can be changed quickly. With the new cases on the rise again (57,236 Yesterday), this is not going away any time soon.

I did get to raft 13 miles of class IV white water this week with my kid. There were walk in camping sites still available river side.

We called a Wisconsin County Park this morning to make camping reservations
The park manager told us not to make reservations because

1) The park has only been about 1/2 full since they opened , so plenty of campsites
2) Due to the increase in Covid cases the Park Board is considering reclosing the park to camping and the situation may change on very short notice .
3) If we did make reservations and they were cancelled by the Park Board they would refund our camping fee but not our reservation fee .

We were only planning on a 3 day trip but even that becomes difficult when everything is constantly up in the air
