Some good news, finally....

Received a notice from my automobile insurance carrier, The Hartford Ins that they are crediting back 2 months of non use of my vehicles for the isolation and stay at home issue. At least some one is one the ball outside of our capitol.

We put both the kids cars on storage policy for 45 days. Reduced the insurance dramatically and removes the temptation for them to try and drive around.

Amica sent me a similar note, 20% off auto from Apr & May, which doesn't amount to a whole bunch but better then nothing.

In the 4 weeks we've been home we've gone thru a 1/2 tank on one car, or 6.5 gallons.

I'm wondering if this event will produce new permanent consumption patterns, especially among those of us who have a lot of free time and don't have to commute to work. Perhaps there will be a lot less driving and a lot less eating out from now on. Behavioral economists are going to have an interesting time digging through all this.

From the examples on this forum and from other sources, it’a apparent that a lot of folks are very fine cooks, trying recipes that are both old standards and bordering on the exotic. From that it seems to me that what’s been holding many back is the amount of time they have been willing to allocate to food preparation. It’s just easier to get fast food, pizzas and restaurant meals. Considering the money saved with less travel to get food, the ability to prepare food exactly the way you like it, and finally the assurance that the food preparation is done with the greatest of care for sanitation and cleanliness, I can only hope that we all find a greater “Joy of Cooking” in the future as a positive coming out of this pandemic. Right now, one of the things I’m missing most is the social sharing at meals with friends and family. As the Cajuns say in their language “laissez les bon temps rouser” or “Let the good times roll”. When this thing subsides.

Saw comparison pictures of the LA skyline taken a few days ago and a few years ago.

The smog is gone, you can actually see the buildings again.
And maybe actually breathe the air??

All right! Smog gone, roads clear of commuters, rebates on insurance, gas is cheap, food prep better, lot's more free time for everyone, what's to stop us? I am so ready to go camping.

Had a charley horse last night, made me think of you Myron. Got up and drank some Gatorade, went back to sleep without the horse. I was also dehydrated, drank a full glass of water. Right now I'm having a beer.......

I hear they stopped making Corona due to the bad publicity. I think our next pandemic should be called Pabst Blue Ribbon or Iron City or National Bohemia............

Beers better forgotten than consumed. Trust me on this. Blatz, Drewerys, Dubuque Star Fallflat and Griesedieck.

I still enjoy a Blatz now and then. Still available, standard American brewski, it's all my next door neighbor consumes.

Chief Oshkosh is another beer worth forgetting, along with Rhinelander. Oh...Falstaff too. I think Rhinelander is still available. The big boy breweries swap/buy the names and quality can vary.

I think I recall Grainbelt beer was the cheapest beer when I was in college in Rock Island, IL. I learned to drink beer in Bavaria while studying German between my sophomore and junior college years. Been a beer snob ever since. Most of the time, I would rather drink water than cheap beer. Never tried Grainbelt.
