Rocky Mountain NP is closing.

“The official announcement of the closure came several hours after Denver7 obtained a letter from the Mayor of Estes Park, Todd A. Jirsa, in which he asked the federal government to close the national park, "to assist our community, our country and our state in addressing the rapidly spreading COVID-19 pandemic."

In the letter, the mayor of the town argued having the national park open “presents a grave public health concern to Estes Park” and surrounding communities, as people are recreating there due to a lack of park fees, spring break travel and the shuttering of ski resorts in the state.

“Estes Park is not in a position to support the potential needs of extra guests at this time,” the letter from the mayor reads. “Furthermore, adequate social distancing is not possible in many of the crowded areas of Rocky Mountain National Park this time of year.”

Washington State Parks just closed through April 30.

If anyone was planning to stay at Fort Casey on the way across to Port Townsend or doesn't mind a detour on the island after picking up your trailer, I have a driveway on South Whidbey. Can't offer much hospitality these days besides an electric cord and great scenery but if you need a place, it's big enough to park a truck and trailer (you have to be able to back either in or out at a 90 angle, though.)

Florida has also closed their state parks today. I paid $17.75 cancellation fee last week for two park reservations so have written requesting refund of those.

MN state parks are currently open, but you have to register over the phone. Visitor centers, etc. are closed. If the bathroom/shower house was open before the plague arrived, it will stay open but with increased cleaning protocols. I think the notion is they want to leave the parks open for people to enjoy, as long as they maintain reasonable social distancing. That makes sense to me.

When we returned from our trip a week ago, and even on the trip, our contact with others was mainly at the grocery store and the historical or scenic sites. As we traveled home, we used the bathroom in the trailer and I sanitized my hands after every gas fill. so probably minimally more exposure than I have at home with a daily walk.

All New Mexico Rv parks closed to short term stays.

Was calling today for reservations in New Mexico and learned the governor has banned short term stays at commercial RV parks. Most likely state parks are closed also.

Was also told nothing is available in the El Paso area. Made a reservations in Canutillo, Tx at gaslight square mobile home park for Sunday. Make your reservations early and good luck.

NM is under stay home order. All non-essential business are closed. Resturants can only do take out. Banks, hardware, grocery, etc. are open.

Colorado

As the State of Colorado continues taking measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, we will close all playgrounds, campgrounds, camping and camping facilities (including yurts and cabins) at Colorado’s state parks as well as camping at State Wildlife Areas.

This is effective Thursday, March 26 until further notice.

This action has been taken based on The Stay-At-Home Order from Colorado Governor Jared Polis and the advice of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Centers for Disease Control.

Does anyone see any logic in this? Are all locals to be tested for viruses b4 being allowed into UT parks? What gives? Here in TN they simply closed parks for camping, but for any day use only (DUO) they are wide open..again no logic.

Schedule??

Here is part of the e-mail we just received from CA:

" CA State Parks is extending the temporary suspension of all camping reservations until further notice. All current reservation holders affected by this safety measure will be contacted via email by ReserveCalifornia and refunds will be issued. Apologies for the impact that this suspension has caused on your travel plans. Thank you for your patience, trust and continued support.

California continues to issue guidance on preparing and protecting all Californians from the Coronavirus. The department is monitoring the situation closely and is following guidance provided by the Governor’s Office via the California Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

In response to the state’s efforts, State Parks has implemented various safety measures such as temporarily closing all campgrounds, museums and visitor centers in the State Park System; cancelling all events; and closing vehicular traffic to parks experiencing high visitation. As of today, non-campground outdoor areas of parks, including trails and beaches, remain open. Day-use restrooms also remain open, and visitors are advised to bring soap for handwashing and to use alcohol-based hand sanitizers when water is not available. All visitors are strongly advised to maintain a social distance of 6 feet or more when recreating in the outdoors, and staying home if they are sick. If visitors cannot maintain social distancing, they need to leave the park.

logic?

Yep..I can see it now..all DUO folks will be issued a firtue signalling stick exactly 6 feet long..to carry while hiking and while on the beaches.. TN SPs are doing the DUO thing too. No logic , seems to me.
