Strange Times

Oil prices per barrel are up but diesel at the pump here keeps going down. $1.78 today in Kingsville.

Stock prices and gold used to be inversely proportional (more or less) but gold buyers now seem to be ignoring the movement of the market.

Haven't been a stock holder for years and never bought any gold unless I count a few baubles for my favorite girl(of 58 years).

I like to watch them tho.

Everyone please buy more cotton stuff. Not going to be a good year!

I was hoping for a few days of boondocking up in the San Juan Mts-Colorado this month. Maybe do some gold digging at Animas Forks. But...read the last quote in red...
  • Are the borders closed in New Mexico?
  • No. All surrounding borders are not closed. State roads remain open.
  • Will travelers with out of state plates be stopped by law enforcement or turned away at the borders?
  • No. Unless law enforcement has reason to believe you are breaking the law or not adhering to the health advisory, you will not be stopped or forced to leave the state.
  • Does everyone in New Mexico have to wear a mask?
  • Yes. Mask-wearing is mandatory in public for all individuals over the age of two, except when eating, drinking or exercising.
  • Is there a punishment if I choose not to wear a mask?
  • Yes. If caught without a mask in public, you are subject to a $100 fine.

......What if I live in New Mexico and I want to travel out of state? Do I have to self-quarantine when I return?
............The mandatory health advisory is very clear. If you cross over the borders of New Mexico, you must self-quarantine for 14 days when you return home

Ah, the old days....

I like that. Here in BC we've been lucky and there have been some folks that didn't get it from get go. At first it looked like about 50% of folks in places like Home Depot would wear a mask. Now it's really slipped. Some places I hardly see anyone with a mask. We seem to be operating on the misguided assumption that everyone is maintaining their social distance. What a joke in large stores. I wear an N95 mask. I'm thinking of getting a Tee shirt that says "When did they announce the pandemic was over."

We've been lucky. We've been on two trips since the campgrounds opened and will be heading out on our third trip shortly.

But I'm really starting to worry about next year and how long it'll be before the border reopens.

We were very fortunate to get the Quartzsite Gathering done right before all this hit. I've been blessed getting to be the WagonMaster for many years there, but very providential I chose the 2020 Gathering to step down.
I hope we get to have a Quartzsite Gathering in 2021, but just don't know if it is going to happen. Always 2022 I guess.

You did a good job, Greg. It was my first time to Quartzsite and I had a good time. Despite being parked next to Myron.

More Geezer Chronicals

I wanna go to Florida - shoot bird pix at Sanibel with the 600mm, and float in the turquoise waters of The Keys, eat Key Lime pie, do a little snorkeling, but, weather threats and that other thing (filled RV sites ) have made the trip a no-go. Have to settle for sheltering in place, made pepper jelly, just driving around here -oh, plus shopping for beer.

And, making this little video. (No offense intended. )

Myron, great video! Thank you for sharing your part of the world - I especially love the horse rescue ranch. Keep wearing your mask and stay safe! Hopefully we can look forward to better times in the 2nd half of 2021.
Wishing you the best, Lesley from the beach in NJ

Ah, you will love making your own pepper jelly. Fairly easy. So much better than anything commercially made, which I think are way too sweet. Friends we knew who lived in Erwinna, Pa (just across the Delaware River) introduced me to it many years ago. The taste just blew me away.

If you're up to it, there are many instructive UTube videos made on the process that will get you going. Best to watch a few. I truly love the combination of slightly sweet and hot.

There’s nothing better than homemade pepper jelly and cream cheese on a cracker, severed with a favourite libation.

Cheers

The Utube video referenced in my post number 8 no longer exists. I deleted it because of a subsequent edit that added five more minutes to the thing. The revision is found with a Utube search for Sheltering2020.

Or, click on this link:
