Sumas and the border blockades

I just heard on the radio that the I-5 border crossing is getting blockaded now, and they are asking people (and commercial traffic) to go to the Sumas crossing as the preferred alternative. UGH. Not to make this about "me" but our pick-up at Sumas is Feb 28. I think it's going to be a mess of traffic and delays.

A lot, good or bad, can happen in seven days. Patience.

Should be cleared now. Government is also expected to invoke Emergencies Act today, which will give them more power to deal with protests along major transportation corridors.

I hope everything goes peacefully and safely. Emergencies Act with additional power sounds a bit ominous, but also the blocking of trade and movement just can't go on. This is so dystopian.

If you want the latest information, go to https://www.cbc.ca › news
Traffic is moving once again at the Pacific Highway border crossing in Surrey, B.C., according to local RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency.
Operations had been halted at the crossing since Saturday when protests against public health measures brought hundreds of demonstrators to the U.S. access point.
Surrey RCMP Const. Sarbjit Sangha says officers ordered demonstrators out of the area just north of the crossing late Monday. She says several people were arrested but was unable to confirm numbers.

With all the logging in Canada and it being the “off season” there ought to be a few D-6, D-7 and D-8 CATS setting around.

The government now has the power to freeze corporate accounts ( like truck owner/operator ) and to suspend insurance of trucks that don't move on their own. This should only be a problem for really stubborn people.

Does no one remember the Boston tea party, William Wallace, MLK, Vietnam war protests, occupy Wall Street, womens suffrage.

Speak to your grandchildren about history, it’s amazing what they were never taught in school. Those of us who were educated before the time of educational indoctrination of political correctness that was implemented by government schools know so much more. Many of us have even lived thru some of these important freedom protests. Seems many have lost sight that the struggle for freedom has been the driving force of history.

Inheritance, government benefits, or maybe it’s just that some forgot, or never lived the struggle.

William Wallace?

Why him? We should teach about him in our schools?
Never heard of him.
I looked him up. A 13th century Scottish legendary knight?
Yawn.

Just because "you've never heard of him", that's a reason not to teach about him in school? Other than the movie "Brave Heart", I had never heard of him either but if it teaches principle, bravery, character, etc., I'm all for including him and others not so well known in teaching the next generation.

Hmm, we seem to have strayed from "Sumas and the border blockades."

It's a non-issue now.

You should be OK as long as you're not trying to cross during the weekend The protesters seem to go away after the weekends are over. Last weekend they swarmed reporters until the police moved in.

Reporters-probably need a new name for what they do…

That’s good to know. Also apart from the first weekend when the radio said there was some blockade action at the I-5, I haven’t heard any more since then.

We’re down to the last days now of this year-long wait - picking it up on Monday! Driving up Sunday, stay the night somewhere in northern WA, and then come home with the 21C on Monday.
