The plague risks

I was sent this from a friend and find it a useful guide for risk assessment. I'll not be attending a wedding next month, indoor church service, indoor reception and dinner. May the newlyweds enjoy a long and blissful marriage. Me, I just want to hang on a tad bit longer, to further enjoy my long and blissful marriage.


What a long, strange trip it has become.


Camping is listed as a low to slight risk activity.

Yup - it is a good chart, and it seems to agree with what else i have read.

I found that walking around a large state campsite.... most people were cool about social distancing, but maybe 20% were completely clueless and rude. (example - 4 teens walking abreast, and 100% filling the campground road.

I had to basically walk WAY out of my way to maintain social distance. I mean - almost leaping into bushes.

oh well. I'm good at holding my breath, as needed, and keeping my distance.

My chart of COVID-19 safety is much smaller.

When I can’t Wear A Mask and Surround Myself with Those Who Wear A Mask or Keep 6’-0” Separation or Can’t Wash My Hands it’s not a safe place to be.

I read an article with interviews with 6 specialists in epidemics and all of them said "no" to eating in a restaurant. They didn't agree on everything but did agree on that.

And today watched a very interesting video on aerosols (from a chemist).

. At 18 minutes she starts discussing masks- which according to this expert DO prevent aerosols or at least slow them. She mentions making sure your mask goes in and out when you breathe- which says you are breathing through it, not around it. (And she also agrees, no restaurants inside.)

I'm currently sitting home with a cold, sore throat, and body aches. Was taking care of our one year old grandson last week who had a cold. I've never worried about a cold before, but now . . . . . . . . ?

Thanks HABBERDABBER — I’ve held off doing anything significant beyond making site reservations for the Mississippi rally . Driving 400 miles and then not being able to participate in any group activities seems rather senseless . We planned to serve the sausage & gravy breakfast to all the rally participants again this year but the way things are going that would not be prudent

We are a little apprehensive about going to Dane County Wisconsin . My sister is a nurse at a Dane County hospital and the Covid rate there has climbed dramatically since the bars were forced open .

Oooo, I'm in the same boat... mild fever, body aches, etc. I got a COVID test yesterday, results will not be back for at least 5 days (labs are backed up).

I will say the nasal "swab" process was extremely unpleasant. It is not a nice soft swab like a Q-tip, it's hard and has little spikes. It has to go into your nose at least 4" and then twirled around for 15 seconds. It's possible the person who administered mine didn't do it properly, but I found it to be very painful. I also got a bad nosebleed and headache that lasted several hours.

While many others have reported a better experience, it's something I will not be doing again. My advice to everyone is follow the social distancing rules so you can avoid both getting the disease and having to get tested for it!

I hope it is just a cold. Here they are asking us to get tested if we have any symptoms- but hay fever has been rampant (since in July we are still getting rain!) so I always have symptoms- none ever progress. If any are ever different I'll get tested.

One good way to get tested for antibodies is to download the Red Cross Blood Donor app, and give blood. They test your donation for antibodies, and post the results to your app. You get an easy, painless test, and do you fellow human beings a good deed to boot.

I gave a couple of weeks ago, and got results 6 days later - negative for antibodies. The donation was the fastest ever - I was in and out in about 30 minutes. They weren't taking walk-ins, appointments only. The result was no waiting in at any of the steps, everyone was masked up, and keeping as much distance as practical - they have to touch you to get the needle in, after all. I wish it went like that every time I gave blood.

This is a great idea, I have donated more that 3 gallons while working but have not been there since retiring.

I also had a nasal swab test about a month ago, drive thru version, prior to some elective eye surgery. It is like a dipstick stuck up your nose and then tickle your brain. It was a new kind of pain. Mine was 5 seconds of twirling, I think, not your 15. It felt like 15. No after effects for me, other than a sour memory of the experience.


Like Bill Clinton famously said, "I feel your pain".

Grandkids...mobile petri dishes. Grandkids almost took out my father...twice...via my uncle who was visiting his grandkids.
As the saying says...what doesn't kill ya makes ya stronger.
He survived the those two incidents but succumbed to complications from a broken hip (after showing off his electric scooter in front of two young women).

They were in their late 70s.
