49" Bed
I sold my 16' Casita because it had a 48" bed. My 17' Casita has a 54" bed, which I fine to be very good.

Sorry about that, I punched a button early. The beauty of the 54" bed is that a std. double bed mattress fits right on top. Then you can use fitted sheets. The question is this: Is there any reason why Escape could not build a 54" wide platform? Thanks in advance.

Which model are you asking about where you'd like a double bed?

Donna,
I'm basically talking about upgrading my 17'SD to an Escape 17'B. Primarily for the insulation & such.

Since you need to gain 5", you'd have to do without the refrigerator, and the sink or stove. But, I suppose anything is possible... you know the definitive place to check is with Escape Trailer Industries.

The bed in the 17 is narrower than the 15. You will have to go with the 15 or the 19 to get a comparable bed. Read the specs carefully to be sure you are getting what you want.

Or ….. move the fridge to the range area …. move the sink to the fridge spot , the stove to the wardrobe area and have a flip up counter on both the sink and stove side ……..that would give extra inches for the bed - maybe more at the new fridge location ……..

Things don't move that easily. There are wheel wells to consider, and weight to keep the trailer balanced. I seem to recall a thread on designing the new 19 where many of the issues were discussed.

Glenn has it right, then there's water lines and electric wire and fresh water tanks, etc. By time all the changes were made (and I'm not saying they can), the price may exceed a 21'. Remember, there are attachment points for cabinetry that need to be taken into consideration too. It would be FAR cheaper to use both beds.

I think weight distribution would be the big issue , gas and power are already going to both sides . Also would one want a break between the stove and sink area ....... fridge would share a wall with the bath - cabinets "may" not add a big expense .........support on the sink and stove side would be a consideration as well , but that could be worked out as in the 15 - with a pole .......

I just noted that the 17B has an option of a 3 burner cook top. Now that is certainly wider than the 2 burner in my 17'SD. Perhaps that might just be enough room to get me to a 54" std. size mattress? Seems possible.

I think the refrigerator cabinet is more the limiting factor than the sink area is.

Thoer,
A point well taken. I can only hope that there may be some flexibility with the closet or the bath area. The 54" bed is a possible deal breaker for me. And I want to avoid jumping up to the 19'.

Don't really know how many inches it might gain , but if one could turn the two burner stove sideways and just have the extra inches from only that end added to the bed width , then make that end of the bed the "head end" - that's really where the wider bed makes the difference , for the shoulder area . The foot end would stay the same . Cushions should not be a huge deal to adjust the sides to fit .....

Is the extra width you are seeking for comfort? Or, is it so you can use a standard mattress and bedding?
We manage just fine, the two of us and an overweight beagle, but that's us.
For bedding, we use two sleeping bags zipped together to make one large one. No hospital corners though.

The wheel wells are right up next to the bed, that's the limiting factor in the 17B. Obviously it never hurts to ask the factory directly, so I'd encourage you to do that to be sure! There's also a mod, which we have in our 17B, that extends the bed into the aisle for an almost king sized bed everywhere but at your feet: http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...r-17b-928.html

So, if I understand the situation the bed platform is below the top of the wheel well and aft of the wheel well. That would appear to be workable. I could certainly live with a slightly higher bed at the level of the top of the wheel well. Currently on my Casita SD the be is also aft of the wheel well, but it is higher than the top of the wheel well by several inches.

I think you really need to talk to Reace at Escape. The rest of us here are just speculating.
I, for instance, don't think you can move the fridge forward, without moving the door forward ( and that's not gonna happen ). Maybe somebody makes a skinny fridge? You need to talk to the guy who designed it and builds them.
