5.0 build sheet questions

Working through my build sheet here. Thanks to all of the MANY thoughtful & thorough posts on this forum, I've made most of these decisions, but a few items remain.

Both the power awning & manual awning seem to have pros & cons, most of which I understand. I'm leaning toward the manual awning, but am wondering about one thing with it. When the awning is retracted, how much of the window is blocked by the arm? This seems like a minor thing, but light & views are a big priority for me. Does anyone happen to have a picture taken from inside a 5.0 with the arm folded in against the window? Doesn't seem likely, but this group often surprises me.

Thanks in advance!

Too dark for a pic but I can tell you the arm overlaps the clear opening of my 5.0 slider window by ~1.5" as viewed from inside straight-on.

IMO view/light is a non-factor in the decision, other factors prevail.

ETI has a video that shows the difference between the two awnings, and how much the window is blocked.

I just measured ours and it blocks the window by 1 3/4". I imagine that could vary by a 1/4" depending on installer. That 1 3/4" is such a minor amount we've never found it to be a problem. We crack ours the 3/4" you can all the time and if we want more air just open any of the other windows. We've never had a problem with lack of ventilation.

Enjoy,

Perry

Thank you (& you & you) for your detailed replies. These each helped me sort this out. So appreciated!

Hello again,

More build sheet questions here. I'm wanting to add several cabinets after market & am compiling the list of supplies needed for these (to be provided by ETI). Here is the list of supplies I've put together:
4' x 4' sheets of "oak"
"L" trim for outside corners
"L" trim for cabinet door openings
trim patch tape for seams & repairs
corner strip for inside corners
cabinet doors

Questions: Am I missing anything on this list? Are the "L" trims for the outside corners & for the cabinet door openings actually the same or different items? Where a cabinet face meets the trailer wall, is the finish strip used there the same as where two cabinet faces meet (what I'm calling "corner strip for inside of corners")?

Any info or thoughts will be much appreciated. Also, I put together this list from a variety of sources over a number of months seeing items called slightly different things, so any correction on the lingo in this list will also be most helpful.

Lorraine - perhaps I'm one of your sources as I've posted about ordering materials from ETI for anticipated cabinet mods. A proposal to help you:
  • Pics are worth 1000 words both for you and for your communication with your ETI build-specialist
  • I can't do it today but allow me a couple of days to take some pics with notes superimposed showing the various trim bits in my 2021 5.0 and post here
  • I suggest that'll hugely clarify the types of trim-bits used for you, and you can forward those to ETI to help in describing what you want to them (hopefully avoiding any nomenclature confusion)
I'll get to this ASAP (but not likely today), hopefully timely to your need.

Hi Alan,

Yes, not only were you one of my sources, your build sheet was the place that I first learned of the ability to order supplies for doing cabinet mods. Joldie & I are working through some other items, & it's some weeks yet before my build sheet is due, so those pics will be most welcome whenever you get to them.

I'm happily following the trail that you & others here have blazed - many thanks!

Lorraine, has ETI indicated a willingness to sell extra material? With these constantly changing supply chain issues I wondered if the policy might have changed.

Just call n ask it will be yes or no so you can plan how your going to do your mods if they aren’t willing to sell extra paneling. So glad I got 3 sheet of the paneling when we attended the last big escape rally at Osoyoos

I have asked for and received 2x2 piece of paneling, under the mattress, on my last 2 Escapes. Still have them in the garage, so I'll not need replacements.

Hi Fender,

Yes, an email that arrived on Thursday indicated that they would be happy to sell any of these items. Joldie said that she doesn't have pricing on these, but that I should send her a list. Best of luck with your build!

As promised, here's an annotated pic that captures all of the representative / typical cabinet trims in my 2021 5.0 (inside corner, outside / bottom corner, and door opening). Notes:
  • The "L" and "Flat" are wood, with the visible surfaces (but not the back) clad in wood-grained vinyl to match the paneling
  • The cabinet opening sill protection is rigid plastic with a 'generic' pattern; when the sill is flush with the cabinet floor, the inside leg of the "C" is cut-off to make an "L" laying flush with the floor
  • There is no applied trim on the solid wood-framed opening sides and edges - those are painted
  • A "Flat" is used on one surface of all inside corners; those are ripped (cut parallel to the long edge) to width in some places
  • The above are typical of similar intersections / edges throughout the trailer
All the terms are mine - ETI or others may use different, thus pics to help effective communication. As always, any of these details could change on ETI's end.

Note too that with the "Contemporary" interior I believe that all of the trim pieces are painted wood rather than clad with vinyl matching the paneling (so might be easy to procure and match locally?).

Hope this helps, Have Fun!

Not sure where to ask this and don’t want to hijack this persons thread, but it’s a 5.0 question which is why I’m posting here. For those of you that have the high lift option, does the front landing gear actually reach the ground when fully deployed or do you have to stack stuff under the front “feet” for support? Thanks in advance!

Deva,

Hijack all you want. One of the best things about a forum is that you never quite know where the conversation will go. Not having my 5.0 yet, I can't answer your question for sure, but someone on here will likely chime in with the answer.

Good luck!

Yes reaches the ground just fine. I normally put a shim in anyway though, not from need, but for speed....

Landing gear blocks

I use these Camco landing gear blocks:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076BRXLL4

I find them very useful and they eliminate the need to fully extend and retract the landing gear. Here's a photo of our 5.0 with the blocks in use.
