I had the same thing happening my pin box a few years ago. I now keep the openings (front plugged with foam rubber and back covered with “plastic” cardboard) to keep birds out. I do this because it is illegal (big fines; Google it) to disturb the nests of most bird species, and having a nest in the pin box could delay, for who knows how long, a planned trip.

What a long strange trip it’s been!
I've had a nest with eggs in the deep-end of my 5.0 pin box, here a quick pic of 3 of the four sparrow* hatchlings, soon to take wing and be gone.
With apology for the blur, I was quick in-and-out as momma bird (circling out of frame) and the 'kids' were a bit excited by my approach.
But all seem to be doing well! .
* I'm not a bird expert, they're what are generically known as 'sparrows' (or 'chee-chee birds') in my neck of the woods
Hi: Centex... Lends a whole new meaning to the term "Pin feathers". Alf
