My 2012 VW Touareg has a 4 pin plug which seems to be normal. Etrailer sells the 4 to 7 pin adapter. Is this something a local mechanic installs to make sure everything from the 7 pin is working correctly? I am assuming this is how the trailer brakes work and the battery and I am not sure what the 3rd item would be. This is my first time ever towing anything. What do I need to know? TIA
You will get a hundred replies from the experts here (which I am not one) but the adapter will probably work for the lights but not for the brakes. You will need a brake controller installed and wired in. I'd have a trailer dealer install a real 7 pin plug and brake controller. Just MHO.
