A Family Emergency and our new Escape

On 7/31 a family emergency precluded us from taking delivery of our new 5.0 at Escape. ETI has been very flexible and supportive of our situation. Since we flew home to Houston our 5.0 is still at Escape while our truck sits in long term parking at YVR. We have reservations to fly back to YVR on Thursday to potentially pick up our trailer on Friday. My fathers critical illness vacillates like a roller coaster. Some days are good and some days are bad. If we take the chance to pick up our trailer it will be a long drive back (2,400 miles) to Houston.

This is a clever group with plenty of ideas so my question is:

If we decide to take a chance and drive back to Houston what/if any are some temporary storage options I can research in case we get “the call” and have to fly back to Houston.

Any other ideas would be helpful.

Thanks, John

Check any near by campgrounds. Many offer storage.

I'm sorry John, these are the tough times in life. Perhaps check private RV parks along your route (NOT RV resorts). Many have long term storage areas for those that are 'seasonal' campers. Whatever happens, you know you won't be parking your tug and tow really 'long term.' It could be a good thing to know your assets are safe, versus just a 'storage lot' filled with utility trailers, boats and the like.

Best of luck, truly.

A Family Emergency and our new Escape

Thanks for the ideas. My first check will be NAS Whidbey Island. Since I am retired military we have access to bases and most have onsite storage and we can’t get more secure than that.

These decisions are tough. We take it one day at a time. Thanks for the support. It means a lot.

NAS Whidbey also has a great RV park!

Good luck, I hope you can take delivery without any emergency calls.

Every city and good size town will have RV storage just make sure you have the title. Around here they charge generally $30-70/mo. Easy to find listed on-line. A lot of the temporary storage facilities also store RVs. As you already heard most military posts will have storage facilities and I think that generally runs $30/ mo. Good Luck

It does! We stayed there in the past and were planning to do the same this trip.

Our plans as of right now...are to fly up Thursday, take delivery Friday and stay at either the Lynden KOA or NAS Whidbey Island for the weekend depending on availability. If things are ok with my father we will head for home, if not, we will store the 5.0 at Whidbey Island and fly home from SEA. We will make a go/no go decision on Tuesday.

I think Lynden also does temporary storage and a lot closer than Whidbey.

another option is fly out and pick up your truck and return home. You can then have the new 5.0 sent to Arizona at the new Lake Havasu City, Az where you can then pick it up a to closer to home. See here for add'l info http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f3...-az-15930.html
got to be closer than Chilliwack and less time away from home.

NAS Whidbey Island and Lynden KOA are booked next weekend. Lynden doesn’t provide storage but they gave me some local recommendations. The search continues...

Thanks. Interesting idea. Perhaps as a last resort.

In June I took the risk of going to Chilliwack (from New Mexico) and picking up our new trailer, even though my mother in law was in hospice, with a very cloudy outlook (my wife stayed behind.)

My assumption was that, if I were called back, I would park the trailer and tow vehicle at the airport out of which I flew back to Albuquerque, if it came to that. Most airport parking lots can handle RVs and the satellite lots off the premises of the airport itself tend to be pretty reasonable.

I was fortunate and got to meander back over a week and a half or so, without getting the call. And my m-i-l is still with us, as they say (in body, if not in mind, sadly).

Good idea. I never thought of checking with airport remote parking lots. Thanks and my best to you and your family.

That off airport parking lot is something good to keep in mind. I know the ones at our local airport and manned 24/7 so you'd have some security.

Thanks to all for your kind words and ideas! I’m working several options based upon your input in the greater Seattle area and Spokane area. It’s day to day. I will update here as we move forward.

Hi John,
We have used a storage facility in Lynden for a couple of customers, they usually want a one month commitment. Happy to send the details if required. Your 5.0TA is safe and sound here in Chilliwack, come back when you are ready.
