Additional brake light option?

Unless I missed it, I don't see the additional (elevated) brake light option listed on ETI's website any longer. It was a very popular feature; anyone know what's up with that?

I believe they moved it from optional to standard.

If you look at the five now standard lights along the top rear of the new models, the three center lights serve as additional brake lights, the one on each upper corner is an additional running/directional light. So even if the two traditional lower lights are completely covered by bicycles, cargo carrier, etc., the five upper lights do everything you need, so I was told by ETI back when we asked about adding them as an option....

Yeah, way to go Rich. Even I just had a brief "Oh Crap!" moment, forgetting about the new lights.

Good question! I was under the impression that all new models would have the same set of five upper tail lights as standard equipment with no different options. But the current outside photos of the 17 on ETI's website are obviously the new model but don't show the upper tail lights. I don't know why they wouldn't include those as standard on the 17. Sounds like an e-mail to Sarah about it would be in line.

ETI web site under standard features list the upper lights as standard on the 19 and 21. It is listed under options on the 17' for $150.
No indication on the 5.0TA but can probably assume that they are included on the new 2017 model??

For the 5.0TA the upper brake signal lights are listed as standard but it is under "Electric" rather than "Exterior" on the features tab.

Brian B-P has indicated in other posts that to meet federal law FMVSS/CMVSS 108 the 19' and larger trailers now have the upper lights integral due to the width of the trailer. The width of the 17' still allows for it to be optional.

I remember that discussion now. Might've been cheaper to just go with the 19...

Maybe a change order is due?

We have a 2017 17B being completed at the end of the month and its definitely still an option. In discussion with Sarah, it does relate to compliance with Federal laws and the higher set of lights is not necessary on the 17. However, if you wish to use the bike hitch on the back, taking the upper tail lights is recommended.

Probably even more important on the 17, being 8" narrower than the 21 or 5.0 and having the brake lights that much closer together.
