For comparison, bulk tanks (e.g. the 20-pound tanks on the trailer) have service valves, even though removing the hose shuts off flow - that shut-off is intended only as a safety feature, while the hand valve is what you normally use.

I think the big reasons for tapping propane at tank pressure ahead of the trailer's regulator are:
  1. it is easier to set up than adding a low-pressure outlet to an existing trailer, and
  2. the tank-pressure supply works with all propane appliances (using the regulator supplied with them or available for them), while a low-pressure supply only works with appliances designed or converted for that.
True, the trailer's regulator might not have enough flow capacity to handle some of the higher-flow appliances (high-power cooking burners, portable firepits) while maintaining desirable pressure. If this is an issue, there are high-flow regulators available.

again Brian, thanks for the detailed answer, great job !

We purchased a low pressure valve so we can hook the grill up to the trailer. We are able to adjust the heat easily using the valve flow control.

We have not used the disposable tank valve that came with the grill since we do not use the disposable tanks while camping. This link will take you to the accessories page, scroll down and you will see the various low pressure valves Magma has available. I do not recall which low pressure valve we purchased and do not have quick access to the grill right now. At the time, I phoned Magma, told them which grill I wanted and they were able to tell me the best valve for our purpose.

My best recollection is that we purchased the low output rather than the medium output or extra low output valve.

Thanks Myron! This is exactly what I have been looking for. Did you buy these parts at Lowe’s/Home Depot or Amazon?

Dave, thanks for sharing these links. I’m gonna jump on this project right away!

Fred, some brass connections were found at my local hardware store, others as noted, either HD or Lowes, or on Amazon.

The different models are just the hose length in inches. If you are going to use the hose from Escape just get whatever length hose you think you want as a backup.

Blackstone. 17” is perfect.
Unfortunately, they no longer produce the 17.
20”. Is their smallest size, now

They are more sq. Inches than we (2 ) persons need.
And weigh more.

Our vote would be the Weber. I have a three burner at home and the one burner for the RV. Sorry didn't bother looking for photos of my dinners. Merry Christmas to all.

I have thought for a long time that an excellent Rally activity would be a Grill / BBQ Ho Down. Winner gets to eat his fill on any of the entered dishes.

Gentelmen …. light your BBQ!

That is a good idea, a chance to try local favorites. But, Alaska is a bit too far. What local items is cooked up there?

Jim, I was thinking about the Osoyous rally but any rally would be fun. I like your idea of going from site to site sampling.... judging …. and awarding Blue Ribbons. Maybe everyone who is brave enough to enter would get a Blue Ribbon with a different award.

Up here, at least in early summer, you would be served King Salmon on the Q and / or Dungeness & King Crab. Pretty sure it would be worth the drive and / or ferry fees.

the problem with that is, if you're cooking you can't exactly be going site to site sampling, most campgrounds are too spread out.

better to have a central potluck kinda setup.... but that requires a lot of coordination, too. like, at Bullards Beach, the 'community' area was a drive from the campground since we needed our chairs and dishes and stuff...

Potluck at Mk'Mip rally has always been a success. Food and those that are hungry are all in the same place.
