Backsplash ideas?

Any suggestions on what to use for a backsplash in the kitchen sink area that will work on the vinyl walls?

The vinyl cleans up easily with a sponge; as easy to wipe down as a back splash.

Lots of people are using the thin "stickum" plastic patterned tiles. I am. Not up yet, as I have to redo the formica countertop first. I have an E19, & if I flip the stove I can get a little bit more "workable" counter space. I have a white brick pattern, so, new formice is a white marble.

Some have used the thin metal ones too. I think kind of for ceiling tiles? Some have a whole rack storage systum.

Many have used peel-n-stick tiles that are very attractive.

We went with a permanent option and installed magnetic tin ceiling tiles on the back and side walls and galvanized sheet metal on the bottom of the overhead cabinets. The ceiling tiles we used are tin-plated steel so they're magnetic, as is the galvanized sheet metal, giving us additional options for hanging things on the walls or underside of the cabinet if desired.

Lots of different ways of doing this and you'll get some terrific suggestions to consider.

See this post by Tree3 with a still-valid link to the backsplash product used

(an IMO handsome backsplash / color combo I bookmarked)

Awesome idea! How did you attach the sheet metal to the vinyl wall surface?

We are planning our 21C and think we will have custom formica. Plan to ask ETI to save sufficient to use as a backsplash, but are not sure if the dimensions of the sheet(s) will allow it. Has anyone done it?

Also, is it possible to heat/bend formica around the corner so the back and side are one piece? What kind of adhesive would work for installation?

When we had our 21 built with custom Formica . We got what was left over. There is plenty for backsplash if that what you want to use it for. depending on the radius you can bend Formica

When doing a edge band of Formica, RIGHT, & it is an Art. You need Formica contact cement. You do the edge first, with ripping from the main sheet. Easiest done, not installed yet to get at the corners. If doing a rounded corner, it is done with a thinner version.......forget the name, been so long. You might try taking a belt sander & gently try to thin it out(at the right place that it will need to bend). Once the edge is on tight, you take a belt sander to the Formice gently, to have it even(flat) with the top. This way, when wiping the counter you don't pull off the edge banding, & why it is the RIGHT way to do it. After smearing Vasoline where the roller will roll, Then need a router with a Formice bit (with the roller), or VERY carefully set the router with an angle bit with roller)to the the spot to take most off but leave a tiny bit. Finish taking off the last bit with file. Then set the counter. I was the Formica person on the crew, many MANY years ago.

Nice. Are those stick on individual "tiles"? Are they magnetic? Thanks.

Peel and Stick Tiles for Kitchen

I put up "Tic Tac Tiles" bought through Amazon in a subway tile pattern on our kitchen back wall. They have very sticky adhesive. It's been about 3 years and they have held up well, so I would highly recommend. It was not fun cutting around the rounded corner windows but I did my best and I think it looks good!

An "unbacksplash" option

I'm going for a simple understated look in my 5.0, so don't want the busy look of a backsplash. However, I do want something to keep liquid & crumbs from getting into the crack where the countertop meets the vinyl wall covering. It isn't installed yet, but my choice is to use the product linked below to make that transition. It comes in 7 colors & there are other very similar products for even more options.

Best of luck to you as you sort through your options, & let us see what you decide to use.

Hmmm. There is already silicone where the wall and counter meet and we don't have a crack to cover up. Do you?
