Breakfast surprise

So I'm starting my breakfast, not at all looking forward to Day 3 of ripping off my torch on roof. It's a brutal job when the sun is beating down, the only time you can rip your roof off. The front half I did 3 years ago and it took my 6 weeks.

So when my wife said those favorite words, "I was thinking" I kind of groaned inside. As if I need any other projects at this time. She reminded me of ETI saying that the oak interior might not be available next year and that the $1,000 discount might end at some point. So I said that I was happy with our 19 but if she really wanted the 21 she could go ahead and order one.

So when I came down off the roof for lunch and inquired about things she said we're getting our 21 on Sept. 6th.

Well the consolation is that we don't have to agonize over the build sheet. We know what we want. Heck, we don't even have to do much for the graphics, just tell them we want the same as we already have. They match the truck perfectly.

Congrats.
Reminds me of walking into the back yard ten years ago. My wife was relaxing on the garden swing and I said, "lets buy an Escape". And, not even looking up from her book, she said, "lets do that".

That's one of two decisions that haven't been finalized yet.
Not that we have to any time soon. I know the pros and cons of both and I know everyone has their own opinion. I'll post our build list when we sign off on it. I might have to eat crow on a couple of items.

Yah, 39 years but who's counting. Between sailing the world's seas and oceans and travelling the highways and byways we've gone a long distance together.

How about "your worse nightmare"

Torch-on membrane is applied by heating the membrane with a Tiger Torch. I built my house to the code of the day but unfortunately the code of the day didn't include adequate ventilation to prevent moisture related damage to the roof deck.

When I did the front half 3 years ago it was a miserable job. The membrane is almost 3/4" thick in places and heavy. It has to be cut into manageable pieces to get it off the roof. No matter what I lubricated a skil saw blade with it would gum up almost instantly. I did my cutting by holding a butcher knife vertically and smacking it 1/2" at a time. There's a lot of cutting involved to get the pieces to a manageable size.

I started off the first day doing that and then I had a brainwave of sorts. Probably from sheer desperation. A friend had given me a pneumatic tool many years ago. The kind of tool the shop guys used to slit exhaust pipe etc. I'd never opened it and when I did I found one of the chisels had a V notch. It was very thick and probably would have gummed up quickly so I ground the chisel much thinner. Like a hot knife through butter.

Still nasty work between kneeling down the reaching into joist cavities and always having to be careful not to put a foot through the ceiling below but at least it's coming along better then it did the first time.

There you are, everything you need to know about ripping off a torch on roof.

Ron

I hope you will be starting a couple of posts asking for input on the awning and windows! I would think this group would have some opinions if you really ask nicely!

You planning to torch down a new roof? Don't burn the house down.

You don't know me. That'd be the day. ETI sent the build sheet. We went down it, yes, yes, no, yes etc. Done. Fortunately we're very clear in our own minds what we want.

There's always that danger with torch on. But the new rood is EPDM. Nothing like doing a 10' x 50' strip at a time.

That will be us if we ever figure out how to get enough time off for a long trip. Desired options and 3 requests are on a spreadsheet already. Maybe I'll find a used one closer (ha ha) to speed things up.
