California DMV requirements for new Trailer?

So, we pick up our new 5.0 in just over a week and I'd like to register it with DMV as soon as we're back in California. Just wondering if the DMV requires a weight tag in order to register a new trailer coming from out of state (or country)?

Background: When I purchased my F150 from Granger Motors (Iowa) last year & tried registering it, the Caif DMV turned me away; saying I needed a weight tag since it was coming from out of state, even though it was a brand new truck.
Gotta love the bureaocracy of California government!

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Hi Jim, Many of us have had a real easy time registering at the DMV Offices in Eureka and Mt. Shasta. All the information you need will be provided by Escape at the time of pick-up. Make an appointment in advance at one of the N. California Offices, keep all the paperwork provided by Escape, and you will be in and out in 20-30 minutes. OH! And don’t forget your checkbook. You’ll pay sales tax at the time of registration!

Cheers

Thanks so much Steve,
Yes, we're planning to try the Yreka or Red Bluff DMV office as we return via I-5. Just wasn't sure if I needed to get a weight certificate along the way (either in Calif, Oregon or Wa) to provide to the DMV, like they made me do with the F-150 last year.

I haven’t heard of others registering at Yreka, Jim, but many have had a very pleasant experience at Mt. Shasta, just a few miles south of Yreka! We came down the coast, so Eureka was more convenient for us. We had nothing but our Escape paperwork and were done in 20 minutes! Wherever you go, make sure you have an appointment !

Good Luck!

Thanks Steve - I'll look into the Mt Shasta DMV as well!
