It's a shame about the Columbia River Gorge. I drove through there for the first time a couple of months ago and was stunned by the scenery. I wanted to return and spend more time there. I guess that's not in the picture now.

I remembered thinking that I couldn't get over how a major river could flow through what is essentially a brown desert without it impacting the (lack of) vegetation. Then within a few miles suddenly everything is lush and green. I guess it's all about rainfall and available groundwater.

Currently sitting with the smoke ringing the hill tops here in Osoyoos. Truck ready and trailer almost packed should I have a smoke-free destination in mind.

I've written about the fire raging in the Columbia River Gorge east of me. At noon today, a Level 1 Evac was put into place 80 blocks east of me.

Just a few moments ago, I heard on the news the fire has reached the Bull Run Watershed. Bull Run is Portland's main source for drinking water.

So while I may not need to leave my property to bug out (FINGERS CROSSED), and depending, depending on what happens overnight, I may go pickup Ten Forward in the morning and fill the water tanks. Right now, that just became an issue. Water. It has not reached the water, or the facility. Water is still ok to drink, Right. Now. Using my trailer as a shelter-in place is comforting when so many others are displaced and may never have something to go back to.

The sad part is that the Eagle Creek fire was most likely started by teenage boys with fireworks. I hope for the best for you, Donna and all of Portland. Let's also not forget Montana. Missoula is also under threat. Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon are all experiencing raging fires like BC did just a month ago.

I'm also glad for this forum and the knowledge and wisdom expressed on these pages. More than once I have thought about how I would use my trusty Escape to shelter in place or move to safer ground in a disaster. Luckily I'm able to keep "Salish See" in my driveway.

Oh Boy! I'm sooooo sorry for you folks having to deal with fire threats. I wish there was something I could do to help..... I guess for everyone to gas up, fill water tanks, pack your larder and get ready. Its a wonderful think to have an Escape trailer (regardless if it has a bathroom or not .... ). Just being ready has got to be a great comfort.

Very best to all be it fire threats or hurricanes in the southeast. Yikes I can't imagine!

Be safe, be smart and plan ahead.

A coworker of mine that is involved in firefighting with his town and the Forest Fire Service here in NJ just got called out to Montana to assist for the remainder of September. Hope these fires are under control soon.
