Chocks and Stabilizers in Freezing Conditions

I wondered when this might happen.. My chocks froze in place. Was able to get unstuck with quite a bit of heated water, but have been wondering if anyone has tips for reducing risk of stabilizers and/or chocks freezing in place….other than not using them, when risk of freezing.

Would spraying them with something be useful? …or putting them in plastic bags? …or?

It’s taken me quite awhile to have this happen, but I think that maybe more an issue of good luck, than any prudence on my part

Yes, lubrication. Just keep the screw parts. and pivots greasy/oily and they won't freeze up on you.

They get dried out from road spray etc. and then water freezes. If you keep the working parts greased up you won't have any trouble.

WD40 can sometimes get things moving when frozen but it's not the best lubricant in the long run.

Thank you!! Will do! I've only recently retired, so just getting started on extending my travel trailering season

Have you ever heard of the flat part freezing to the ground? I've not had that happen yet...but do not have difficulty imagining it.

We carry a five pound persuader to remove stuck items, but mainly use with an axe to split wood. If items are froze to the ground we also carry a chisel to use with the persuader.

Enjoy,

Perry

I use the heavy rubber chocks from Tractor Supply...so a good whack with a hammer usually gets them out. If not boiling water and a whack. For the stabilizers a little heat from a propane torch on the pad that is frozen down and a light whack(don't use the BFH as you might bend something!)
