They are in the front storage box. I don't believe that Escape will put them on the rear bumper in a 19. Maybe a concern with tongue weight...

Escape will no longer place the batteries under the front dinette bench due to weight distribution concerns. Thus, it seems highly unlikely that they would agree to place the battery weight even further back on the rear bumper. I think that batteries on the front of the 19' either with or without the box, is your only option.

No, the general location is not a buyer's choice. The proportions of the Escape models vary, and so the appropriate battery location varies.

• The 17' is quite long in front of the axle, so for balance the battery (or batteries if twin) are at the rear - outside, between the rear bumper and the body shell. Dual batteries are mounted in separate boxes.
• The 19' accommodates the mass better up front, so the battery (or batteries if twin) are in front - outside, on the tongue (in the box if so equipped).
• The 21' (and I believe 5.0TA) would be too front-heavy with the batteries up front, don't need it as far back as the bumper, and have space under the dinette... so that's the battery location. A single battery box is used, but the optional larger single battery (Group 29 size) or optional dual 6-volt batteries come with a larger box.

All batteries are in boxes, of various kinds depending on location. Outside boxes have vents; inside boxes are vented through hoses to outside.

Brian we don't have any venting in our outside box ? The batteries sit on a wooden ledge in storage box with a wood top over top of batteries which I made more secure to make sure wooden top stays put . Pat

The exterior boxes are not sealed, hence I believe BrianBP statement that all boxes are vented. Ours has holes in the bottom of the box and the lid has plenty of gap for air to move through.

Yes, that's all I was thinking of. A box built as an outside battery box normally has gaps between the lid and box intended for cables and airflow; the ventilation of the Escape front storage box is a little more... accidentally fortuitous.

No holes in ours at bottom . We were told could make some holes if we found water in box . So far haven't . Pat

My 2009 19' has dual sixes under the passenger dinette bench, vented to the outside. Placement seems to vary considerably by RV size, age, and perhaps convenience.

any chance you could post a picture of them . i thinking this might be the best setup. as in cold weather there is advantages of having the boxes inside.

I also think inside is best because it gives more room in the front box for other stuff. However, My 2013 19' was one of the last that Escape produced with the dual sixes in the front dinette seat. There policy has since changed and they will now only install the batteries outside and on the front of the trailer.

I much prefer them in my storage box outside. Makes maintenance a snap because they're easily accessible, and I was able to install a power Jack and wire it directly in just a few minutes.

There's no need. The storage box is not airtight - just keeps the water out.
