Escape 5.0 on order
Hello folks;
Dave & Deb here. We live in Memphis, TN and currently own a 1999 17’ Casita. We placed our order for an Escape 5.0 yesterday, with an October 26th delivery date. We will be towing with our 2003 4.0 L 2wd Ranger, with plans to replace it with a 4wd version in a couple of years.
I’ve been lurking here for about a month and am compiling a list of options for the new trailer. Thank you all for your expertise and opinions. I’ll try to search the forums before bombarding you with noob questions.
I haven’t had an opportunity to talk with Rease about this particular brainstorm yet, but was wondering if anyone had tried to get the 5.0 built with a front window in the “bedroom.” We like the great ventilation we get in the Casita (the Towster) with windows on three sides of the rear bed and were hoping for the same in the Escape.
We travel with three mid-sized dogs so we are looking forward to having a bit more floor space for them. Currently, nighttime trips to the bathroom resemble a game of Twister with grumbling dogs for a soundtrack.
I look forward to getting to know you better in the future.
Dave

Congrats!! Now the hard part the waiting..
Ask away on the questions as there's always someone that has an answer or at very least point you in the right direction.

Re: Escape 5.0 on order
Hi: Dave& Deb...And Welcome!!! As for a front window I wouldn't say it's out of the question, but structuraly may not be feasible. On the inside there is a wood crossbar in the insulation from one side to the other in that wall!!!
We always sleep with the MaxxFan on and tow with it open and almost never have the windows in the front open.
Then again we don't have any dogs to contend with. Alf

Among the benefits of dogs (even greater than the excellent security system they provide), is the convenient excuse they provide when Deb looks around with a horrified expression on her face, and I can say "It wasn't me...must been one of the dogs" (However, after more than 20 years, I can't get much past her).

Re: Escape 5.0 on order
Dave, congrats on your purchase, and welcome to the ranks of Escape owners.
So.....you blame the dogs too. That works both ways though, our dog has got me blamed for his smells too.
Alf, either they built your trailer crooked, or you were standing on your short right leg when you took that photo.

Hi Dave,
Did Reace mention that there is a new vent over the front bed?
We will take some photos and post them here shortly.

Wow, that would be nice! A few evenings, we thought, "Wouldn't it be nice to have a vent over us?" Of course, we already have a hole over our bed, placed there by Demon Jim, when he was trying out Rease's reciprocating saw! But, the nice telescope we installed over the bed, works great on starry nights, and is a "one of a kind" modification : - ) Below is a picture of Jim causing his mischief!

Hi: HokieEscape...Dan... If you wait long enough "everything that goes around comes around". You will get a chance to "reciprocate". Alf

Re: Escape 5.0 on order
Hi Dave - congrats on your placing of the 5.0 on order. We too, are going to tow with the 4.0L, 2wd, 2008 ford ranger. We also have found that there are many ideas on how you want your unit changed from stock. We added a lot of little extras, like more exterior lights, 12v outlets, parcel shelf 6" below the top of the wardrobe, TV swivel mount, microwave, elec/propance water heater, extra tv outlet, 6" mattress, exterior access door, taller backsplash, power wire to rear of trailer for mounting exterior HID back up flood light, bike rack, etc.
No doubt you will find more to change, also.
Good luck with your order, it will be well worth the wait, we have been very impressed with the few we have seen in person.
Ken, Diana and Katie.

Re: Escape 5.0 on order
heh Ken, one other thing I'd add from what you've listed (all great) is a couple more electrical outlets. Like at home, you never have too many : - ) Of course, if you only boondock, then you won't need them.

Hi Hokie - just thought of one more thing, having an exterior light installed very near to the outside shower. cant clean the doggy feet if you can't see what ur doin.
By the Way, your set up with the Frontier looks nice.

Re: Escape 5.0 on order
Hi: EGSKPN...Ken... We also have a porch light under the bed area behind the 5th. pin. It will light up at the touch of the switch for night hookup/unhooking. We also use it as an indirect light as it bathes the ground in front of the trailer. If we are out visiting and wish to light up the parking space in front of the trailer we will leave it on rather than the one at the door due to light attracting bugs. Alf

Jim, they must be in the lower front behind an outside hatch. That is where they are at least in stickie-5th.

Great idea on the shower light!. Our three rascals (Nola, Kaya, and Pepper) tend to get into the mud at every opportunity.
