Not sure if other posters answered this question completely or if you got the answer you wanted but I would add the outside storage space behind the hatch in front of the door is isolated from the spaces available under the two bottom stairs, as well as from the space under the top step which is accessed from the large hatch under the sleeping loft. As Donna says, it is deep, very deep, and it is not connected to any other storage space.

Hi Carl,
Are you saying that the top step storage is accessed from a large hatch under the bed mattress or from the out side access
hatch in front of the trailer?
Mark

Mark
The top step space is not accessible from inside. There are two large hatches on the front of the 5.0TA. The lower holds the propane tank(s) and the upper is storage. This is the space under the top step. There is also a hatch in front of the door with a space only accessible from outside. This is the "deep" compartment. The two lower steps flip up providing storage space accessible from inside the trailer.

Carl,
Got it thanks again, But now my wife has a question for you is the top storage compartment big enough to store two lawn chairs?

Escape 5.0 TA Questions

Hi Mark. No not big enough for lawn chairs. But a great place for propane stove, hoses, electrical cords and such.

Cheers

Unless they changed it since mine was built the inside of the top step is accessed from the 2nd step, inside the trailer. As you have to reach up to get to it it's kind of useless. Might make a good place to hide stuff if you get creative.

Could probably cut out the front of the top step and put in a cabinet door and a bottom to what would be your new cubby. Don't know if you'd have issues with weight bearing on the steps if you did so though.

Currently have no need for yet more storage so I've done nothing with it.

Gosh, Ten Forward must be different still. When I flip up the second step, I have some cavernous space. The limitation isn't depth (to the front), but the the second step is only about 6-7 inches when flipped up.

That's the same as mine Donna. If you reach in and up you can put your hand up to the top of the top step.

I'd love to be able to put my folding chairs in that area, unfortunately the second step is too short. I guess I could carry them there, just not store them there. When the carpet wears out, I'm going to see what I can do to hinge the top step

Mark. I have a tool box in the front of the bed of my truck in which I have three plastic boxes. One contains propane items (hoses, leak detection spray, etc), another water items (coiled up hose, water filter, hose washers, etc.), and the other electrical stuff (30amp extension cord, adapters, etc.) and some other items, most notably Campfire in a Can for the burn ban locations. These items stay in the truck 24/7 so I am somewhat ready to go RVing.

There is an 8-inch gap between the bottom of the tool box and the bed of the truck. I slide our 2 camp chairs underneath the toolbox where they are relatively protected. Then I lay a door mat infront of the hitch and place the patio mat on top of it. The only other item I put in the back of the truck is a small cooler in the event we pick up groceries on the way back to the campsite that need to be kept cold. My reasoning is simple. The chairs, patio mat, and door mat can get saturated and/or muddy. I figure it is better to transport them in a place that can be hosed out rather than in one of the trailer's storage compartments.

The grill (Weber Q100) and the stove, if I bring it are both in totes purchased from Walmart and go into the back seat of the F150. To put the aforementioned items into the bed of the truck and the cooking appliances in the back seat takes maybe 5 minutes. I can then hitch up and I'm ready to go.

The key to an RV, especially a small one, is to organize your stuff into limited available space in a way that is most efficient for your needs. What I do may not work for others. I could also transport the grill and stove in the cargo bed behind the hitch if I needed space for grandchildren.

Bob....mine is completely closed off. But I know they made changes. Alf has the wrap around dinette and his table slides front to back. I also have the wrap around dinette but my table slid side to side. My wife hated it. I took the tracks off and changed it so that it now slides front to back, and put a T-nut/knob lock on it. I can't figure out why ETI changed to a side to side slide, but they must have thought it was better. We sure didn't.

Carl judging from what you just wrote it looks like I will be adding a toolbox in the back of my TV.

Here is alternative. Although the hatch does not access the area under the stairs, it does access a large and deep area, almost too deep. I had ETI install the hatch below the body line so I could divide the space between outside access and inside access. The smaller area at the bottom behind the hatch is large enough to hold levellers, X-ball chocks, tire chocks and other small misc, stuff. The upper area is also large, I just had to add a door above the fire extinguisher.

Chris,
I like your suggestion with lowering the outside access hatch door and the added interior access door. I am adding your ideal to are possibility list for are new 5.0TA. Also your light gray graphics on your 5.0 TA look great.

What option did you choose for the windows in the upper bed area on your 5.0 TA.The options are Non thermal opening windows in bedroom area or solid windows in bed the area I am assuming these windows are thermal windows.
We are leaning towards the openning non thermal windows in the bed area we like to be able the open windows for sleeping at nights.

I think the non-thermal opening windows are the best for us even though we have thermal windows on the others. The emergency exit above the bed also can be cranked open to provide additional ventilation.

I also have this configuration, and am very happy with the flexibility it provides. If you want good air flow, you have it, and can close the windows when desired.
