With the delays in the new 5.0TA mould getting built, the first shells came out in later 2016. Mine is one of the first ones and was not available until later January 2017. All the new model 5.0TAs are 2017s.
Just a wee thing, but thought you might like to know. ....
Thanks, the 'visual' tweaked just a wee bit to reflect this detail
Remember in 2016 when all exports were temporarily suspended? "Effective July 18, 2016 US Customs is temporarily suspending all US exports from Escape Trailer Industries. There are new importation requirements required by the US Department of Transportation which are being enforced by US Customs."
It had to do with reporting requirements and VIN decoding requirements.
For nearly a month, no trailers from ETI crossed the Canadian/USA borders. August 10, 2016 was a red-letter day when Doug and Lucy Metz were the first to get their trailer after everything was 'fixed.'
VIN numbering changed and you can no longer depend upon it to tell you how many of any particular model were built from this point on.

Here’s a little addendum. I had Jim Norman down in my Field Notes book as owning Escape 21 number 773 delivered to him as the 13th built and delivered to him in November 2013 and titled as a 2014.
Reace told Tom Frazier and me that he intended to build 10 trailers on his initial offer of the new 21 selling for the same base price as the 19. He couldn’t get the deal cut off before he’d sold 13 after the initial showing at a Rally after the Escape Rally in Osoyoos in 2013. He had wanted to premier the 21 at that 2013 Osoyoos Rally but his prototype (there were three built) was not ready so he showed it at a rally in either Washington or Oregon in June of 2013.
Without making anyone mad, I hope, here are my notes on the 21 initial offering.
#3. Tom from Seattle 763
#5. Brad from Nainomo (sp?) 765
#6. Iowa Dave and Rita 766 Original owner AZJack named “ESCAPE the HEAT.” Now licensed as RITA’S 21.
#7 David from Palo Alto CA 767 David was the second. owner, since sold. Was Named “7th Heaven”
#8 Dave and Kathie Portland. 768 According to Donna D
#13 Jim Norman PA. 773 Trailer name “Blackjack”
I first saw this trailer at Townsend TN in April 2014.
I wish I had the eidetic memory I claim to have on those bar bet opportunities. But I do have little notebooks some going back to the hunting and trapping seasons of 1964.

CPAharley supposedly had the 12th 21’ built (a 2014) and it was Escape’s 831st trailer. Seems hard to believe though that so many other models were made between the 6th and 12th 21’.

We are actually the 3rd owner of our 2014 21C, as I remember the original owner was from the Florida Panhandle. The 2nd owner is in the Panhandle of Mississippi, they had gone to see the trailer through the Escape Ambassador program and ordered ordered one. About 2-3 weeks after they had gone to see it the original owners called them and asked if they would be interested in buying theirs, the wife was having issues with arthritis and they decided to sell the trailer. 2nd owner did not own the trailer very long before we bought it, they had 6 grandkids and decided they needed a bigger trailer and bought a new 25' Bigfoot. I guess I'll never know exactly where it falls in the pecking order of when manufactured but proud to say we own one of the first twenty 21C manufactured.
Hi Dave
I am not sure when or where I got the number for
Jim’s first 21. I will defer to your record keeping I might have written it down wrong. I didn’t know Jim had a real early 21 but did see it at
Townsend in 2014. Bill Sonnenburg was there too with his pretty new 21 and though I’ve camped with Bill several times I don’t believe I ever asked him about his serial # or exactly when he got the trailer. We had the 2010 19 at the time. It was and still is a real nice trailer.
More research.
Thanks,
Dave

Steve:
What are your last three VIN numbers? I remember it was a pretty early one when we
Camped at Davey Crockett Birthplace state park and I think we checked your WC pressure that time? Good potluck with some powerful Bourbon Ball candy from Corky and Darlene in their Scamp.

Your trailer was made when the last 3 digits of the VIN indicated how many trailers had been made in total up to that point. You might never know exactly how many 21's came off the line before yours but you can see how close your last 3 digits are to the first batch of 21's made which are in the earlier post by Iowa Dave. All trailer models are in the numerical sequence so it's just an approximation.
Our VIN ends in FC068041. We're 2nd owners of 15A, but have the ETI Bill of Sale that has
Order Date of 27-Feb-15 and Received 1-Apr-15.
I'm a bit confused because the Spec Plate on the trailer has Date of MFG: 12/2014

Trailers that were made in December were typically considered the next model year. Is it possible the trailer was built with select options chosen by ETI and then purchased as such by the first owner? Back then there were fewer options and I suspect Reace made some trailers without commitments to keep the production line busy during winter months. Interesting that your last 3 digits are 041. I wonder if this was after ETI did their only VIN rollover once they hit 1,000 units. This would make your trailer the 1,041st built.
On edit: It is believed that Escape passed the 1,000 mark in late 2014 or early 2015 so this agrees with the timing of the rollover and your trailer VIN numbering of 041. https://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f...tml#post319227

Hi Dave
Thanks for your post today. I remembered we had been around this mulberry bush before but I couldn’t remember quite when. I was glad to see my recent posts mirrored those in the thread you referenced. At least I had my story straight even if I am www wwwrr wwwrro wwwrron wwwrrong. Boy that was hard.
Thank you very much

Best Ford pickup I ever had was the first one in the second row. Also had a 1970, 1978 Bronco, 1988 Ranger. And not one since about 1995.
My brother had a 1929 roadster pickup I think it was. The one he has now he only uses occasionally, it’s parked most of the time. It’s name is Maceo Parker after the saxophone player. Remember when James Brown would call out “Take me to the bridge Maceo”?
A little music appreciation lesson thrown in for flavor
The poster would be interesting and could hang in the Escape Garage.

That all makes perfect numerical sense with VIN ending in 041 we have the 1,041st to roll away from Chilliwack. Someday we'll figure out how close we are to having the final 15A that ETI made.
Many thanks for the clarifications!
We met Tammy and Reece at the RV show in Abbotsford in fall 2003. A couple weeks later we visited their "factory" in an east Chilliwack refurbished chicken barn. In May 2004 we visited their new location in north central Chiliwack, not far from the ice arena complex, and placed our order for a 17. As we lived 40 minutes away we visited every Friday afternoon to view the week's progress. Try getting onto the factory floor today! We were able to make changes and/or additions at every visit. We took possession in October 2004, Escape trailer #30, $17,500 CDN all taxes in. Still going strong including a Dempster Highway round trip and the Top of the World route into Alaska. In 2017 after the Dempster cracked the fridge's ammonia tubing, Reece and Tammy took it in and installed a new fridge. Couldn't happen today.
Since I still own my (classic) Escape 19 this discussion has been very useful. Picked mine up in Sumas, 19 Sep 2013, after a great, instructive introduction at the factory by ….I forget. Now I am very curious to know what it’s production number is. ( I’m old, and I forget stuff.)
My 19’s Vin is 2E9TF6B23DC068785. To be clear, does that last 3 numbers mean my 19 was the 785th classic 19 ever built?
