They did. Brian Van Snellenberg owned one called Ladybug. He passed a few years ago.
Here is post by him from maiden voyage:

I rarely see an Escape in the Midwest but today spotted another 17 on I-64 between St. Louis, MO and Mt. Vernon, IL. I was headed east and it was westbound.

I spotted an E-19 in California yesterday (24APR2021 @ 10h30). It was on Interstate-80 eastbound just passing the huge Bass Pro Shops/Outdoor World in the town of Rocklin. Lookin' good!

Yesterday, April 28, we passed a 1st gen Escape 19 on UT-24 just east of Capitol Reef NP. Hello to you; we were pulling our E17.
What an interesting highway. High desert great basin wilderness, punctuated by absolutely stunningly beautiful geologic formations. We're now just learning about the last 50 M years of geologic upheaval in this region.

We passed you in our truck without our 5.0 on 24 yesterday near the park, you were at a turnout.

May 2nd; 5.0 heading W. on 380 just east of Roswell. We were going E. in our 5.0. First 5.0 we've seen in the last year (other than ours). Hi!

Escapes

Ran onto three rookie campers and their lovely wives. They were all surprised to learn that that you can’t tow an Escape 21 with a Toyota Highlander. Upon further questioning I learned they had 94 years of trailer towing experience among them. Well over 60,000 accident free no towing failure Highlander miles. They seemed to be a happy little crew. Even their dogs had waggely tails.

A few years back we spent the night at Haviland Lake north of Durango. As we were leaving the next day we stumbled upon two matching Escape 21s with matching tow vehicles--maroon pick-ups, but can't remember the make.

We stopped to say hello as we circled past after breaking camp. They were from Texas and invited us to stay and help them eat some of the trout they had. We couldn't resist, and had a great time.

This was back, well before the pandemic, when you didn't need reservations--the good old days.

Can't match the trifecta that Dave discovered.

Hi, David.
Yeah, it's a wonder how we ever got to our destination; we kept stopping to take in the scenery (and it changed around every bend!).
After Capitol Reef, we went to Bryce Canyon NP. Now, that is breathtaking.

Saw what looked like an E19 Westbound on Hwy. 278 in Cullman Alabama today.

Never seen one this close to home, other than ours.

Dave's trifecta of three Escapes together is hard to beat. How common is it to see two different Escapes in different places on the same day?

Earlier today we were heading westbound on US 160 in Colorado towards Wolf Creek Pass near Hanna and we met an Escape traveling eastbound. It was either a 19 or 21 with what looked like a teal colored Escape decal on the rock guard. Any clues on who that might have been?

Speaking of Durango, after setting up camp in Bayfield, we drove into Durango this afternoon and parked the truck on E 2nd Ave. I got out of the truck, turned around and noticed the rear end of an Escape that had just passed behind us heading up 2nd Ave. Phone was in the car so I was too late getting a picture. We were quite excited to see two Escapes within a few hours of each other. Anyone on this forum been in Durango today?

This is where we were parked and the direction the Escape was headed when we saw the tail.

We were going north through Eureka, CA on 101 last Sunday the 16th. Headed home form picking up our new to us '11 Escape 17B when we came up on a new body style Escape 21 towed by a Tacoma. Waved and waved but the driver would not be distracted from his focus on the road. We passed and drove in front of them for several miles before they got off the freeway just out of town. I'm sure they saw us after we passed.

How is 101 between Eureka and Crescent City now? I was supposed to go down last month but they were closing it down at the slide for hours at a time so I postponed.

Hwy 101 Cresent City/Eureka

Here is the Highway 101 close information posted at Elk Prairie campground. We went thru on 5/13 at 8am on the one lane. TIming was everything.

We've seen four 19's and one 17 on our trip so far, and given five informal tours of our 17b.

Hi Bobbie, We drove this stretch on May 9th and road construction stopped us for an hour. It was originally going to be 2 hours, but we were pleasantly surprised when they opened up after 1.

Cheers

Thanks. My plan is to stop at a friend's in Brookings and then leave early in the morning to get to McKinleyville, but I'm now planning on late June (grandson only got 5 tickets to graduation for his two families so I get to watch online!) and hope by then it is minimal. (Hard to leave early enough coming back.) This trip to see them has been postponed 3x now, starting with Christmas 2019.
