100 feet? Pretty good at the magnification I used.

It makes sense to accurately identify ETI; they're the business. But, how prudent is it to pinpoint your location. Isn't the center of town, or something similar, good enough?

And, no, in this day and age, I don't think I'm asking too extreme a question.

It's your call. You can place the pin wherever you want.

I agree, and I agree with the "close is good enough" comments. The idea to provide some geographical context for owners, not to guide navigation. If someone is actually coming to visit you, you will provide appropriate directions to them individually.

I went to the map to look at where my pin was and couldn't find me. Then discovered that Not so big Al's pin is on top of mine ( he's a block away ). Then shifting the cursor, he disappeared behind my pin. And, moving the cursor again, he's back and I'm gone.

Keep zooming in until you can see both pins.

I have a very old Google account, so old I can't remember the password to log in. My browers of choice is IE, but I also have Firefox. If I log in to the EscapeForum using Firefox, which I've NEVER used for my Google account, I can see the map. It doesn't ask me for a password.

In other words, try a different browser that you've never used for your Google account. Works for me. YMMV

Donna, I think the difference with signing in, is that you can edit the map. You should be able to see it without signing in, in any browser.

Jim, IE won't allow me to view the map without signing in. I guess because it knows I have a gmail account... that goes for any Google map... the rallies map on FiberglassRV and the one on CasitaForum. But using Firefox, not a problem...

Hmmm... I may never understand this stuff.
I just opened IE for the first time in a year or two, and when I went to this forum without logging in, and clicked on the map without logging in to Google, it opened for me no problem, though I it won't allow me to edit.

I pretty much use Chrome all the time, and Firefox on occasion.

Donna, it sounds like the Google add on is installed in your IE. The extension is called for in IE whenever you browse a site with google source content. You should be able to easily remove the extension in settings>manage add-ons. IE also has some compatibility issues with Google maps, an issue that has been well documented. There's another issue that's a little hard to explain without getting too technical, called cross-site scripting. IE has slightly different security settings when this is encountered. This can cause the DNS request to not resolve for Google maps in IE.

Bottom line, I highly recommend using Chrome. Works.

Ah! Exactly why IE has been called "Microsoft Exploder" for years.
(What Would you expect a FireFox Fan to say).

Robert (rbryan4) has a good fix-it suggestion, although his use of the word 'easy' in conjunction with IE is

Nothing I can do to change any of the setting here at work in IE. All settings are controlled by our IT department.

Ah, the plot thickens. Yep, nothing you can do, since the security settings are probably controlled by a GPO on the Domain. Do you have permission to download/install another browser?
