Eternal TUG question
We're right down to the wire about getting in line for a 17B or the 19 but really want to keep our 2011 6 cylinder RAV4 as tug. The 19 has a GVWR OF 4000#. Any of you willing to say if it'll do the 19?

What are the towing and weight ratings of the RAV?

I'd get the 19 to replace my 17B, but I'm not willing to buy a new tug as well. I wouldn't tow a 19 with my RAV4.
Buddy towed his 19 with a Hyundai Santa Fe ( same 3,500/350 rating as RAV4 ) and lived to tell about it.
Do you feel lucky? Do you?

I pull a 17B with 2010 Santa Fe and I would definitely not pull a 19.
It pulls the 17 just fine but a 19 would in my opinion be too much trailer.

Eric asked the right question. The numbers either work or they don't. I also prefer a little extra capacity rather than pushing the limits.

RAV4 6 with the tow package has a tow rating of 3500lbs. See Rbryan4's comment.

Jonathan, just a bit of advice for what it's worth. Tow vehicles come and go a lot more frequently than trailers do. If you can swing it, pick the trailer that you'll be happy with long term. If that's a 17, then great. Much easier to change the tow than the trailer.

That is true, but wife and I are not feeling the choice too bitter between a 17B and a 19, seeing as how we've been camping in a 10 foot teardrop since 2006. So any of you kind souls want to give me your top three preference factors between the two models, your free advice will be cherished and considered kinda deeply!
Thanks!

- single versus dual axle
- layout (love a rear dinette)
- width

I've had both. 17b and now the 19. Loved the 17, but for us the 19 is a major upgrade. Full Queen, dual axle, full dinette, way more storage, and the difference in the room in the bathroom is quite substantial. Wouldn't even be a decision for us, 19 and as Robert said tow is more likely to change than trailer.

My buddy has the 19 and that's where we end up as couples playing cards or dining. Really hard to get four people around the dinette in the 17B.
The 19 is wider too so one party can get past the other in the aisle without getting overly familiar or going outside.
If I were starting from scratch I'd be towing a 19 with a Highlander.

We second that!! Best advice we ever got was 'buy the trailer that you love and then get the vehicle to tow it.'
Good luck!

I was originally thinking 17B and Toyota Tacoma. But after checking out the 19 it made a world of difference to me, especially being able to stand up in the shower. This is going to be my home, so I had better feel comfortable in it. Now I am thinking I will feel more secure with the Tundra V-8. More money, but as others have already commented, it's better to have wider margins than just getting by.

The Toyota Tacoma would be well-suited for towing the 19' and its performance would far exceed "just getting by". But if the bigger Tundra V-8 gives you a warm fuzzy feeling, then go for it, it will certainly do the job.

BE CAREFULL! Originally had a Tacoma, and had a 19 on order. After I ran the numbers, I was with in 50 lbs of max payload with the Tacoma. To close for me.
Soo - I said to wife, I guess we better trade up to a Tundra, wife said -ok. Went to Niagra Wine Escape, wife walked in to a 21, wife said- you get bigger truck, I get bigger camper. I said, being the man of the family- ok. Now we pick up our 21 in October.
