ETI visit 21/01/2020
So I was passing by ETI today and after years of saying that I'd buy a 21 if it had a 19 layout I thought that it would be interesting to see how it looks in reality.
The sensation for me was sort of like when you're familiar with one side of a side-by-side duplex and then you go in the other side. Sort of familiar but different.
I'll not make any comments on whether I'd choose the new version of the 21 or not. There's been enough endless comments about "climb over" vrs. "skoot".
But I'd have to say that anyone who likes the 19 layout might as well just buy the 21NE with the extra room. I don't know if there's a price differential between the 21 and the 21NE. If not, choosing the 21NE over the 19 would seem to be a no-brainer given the relatively small differential in the 19-21 cost.
Actually the first time that I've seen the cot option brackets. I don't know why someone that wants the cot option in a used trailer would pass up one at a good price that didn't have the brackets. Seems like a very easy retro-fit.
The demo unit had a high lift axle and the two step stairs. The bottom step was a couple of inches off the pavement so it likely wouldn't work with a standard axle without modification.
The headboard is a prototype. It may or may not be offered.

So Ron, would you get the standard or the NE model if you had to do it over again?

So that headboard could be a great idea . I would want the bottom up a bit because it would get buried with blankets , pillows etc. Pat

Ron: The issue isn’t with the brackets. The blocks to screw the brackets to are only glassed into the walls behind the headliner if the cot or cot ready option was ordered. Without the blocks you cannot install the cot.

I think that's one discussion that I don't need to trigger. Maybe around a campfire and after a couple of beer I might offer an opinion but until then my lips are sealed.

If I needed a cot I'd buy the brackets and poles from ETI. Then I'd make 4 round disks from the same wood as the interior. They would have a lip on the interior edge. Then I'd cut the vinyl and insulation to expose the bare glass the same way I did when I retro-fitted a dinette light to my 19. Then I'd epoxy the disks to the f.g. It is a strong bond and more than capable of supporting the cot load. Then I'd screw the cot brackets to the disk. The lip of the disk would cover the cut edge of the vinyl.
Seems doable to me.

"climb over" vs. "skoot".
I picked the climb over.
The 21LE was initially released right around the time we put in our build sheet. I stuck with the 19 because of the assumed price difference, the narrower profile (less wind resistance and easier to see around), and the lighter weight. This was an upgrade from our 2007 17B, no more sleeping on the dinette.
There have been many comments about the table and not being at the back of the trailer and being able to see the view when eating, but my wife often sleeps longer and it works better if the bed is far from the door as opposed to close.

Anything is possible when you are as creative and skilled as you are Ron! I was thinking more for the average person.

I find as I age that the ability to make changes wanes and the capability to have others perform those changes increases...

So what you're saying is rather than change the empty propane tanks you'd be more inclined to buy a new trailer. :-)

Such flatterty My experience is that the average person could do this mod. but they would have a lot of reluctance to do so. But, if encouraged, and started would likely be successful and, more importantly, having had some success doing a mod. would be much more likely to do others.
I think a "can do" attitude comes from building on past successes but that doesn't happen unless a person takes the first step.

Sounds like I need to bring some beer for the campfire at Quartzsite so I can find out the answer to this one.

Besides, Greg would not do that.
What is told at Quartzsite, stays at Quartzsite.
