extra door on bed? Exterior door on P/S on 21'???
Since we haven't seen an Escape since last summer some decisions are just kinda tough to figure out.
Is it difficult to get to things under the bed with that one standard door? Is the extra door really helpful and worth it?
How useful is the Passenger side door under the dinette where the battery is? I know you can enter that space by pulling up the cushions, but does it really help to get to it from the outside for some reason.
We are getting the extra large box at the front of the trailer to store stuff.
48 hours and counting until our build sheet is due.
I know everyone will be relieved when I quilt asking questions.

The standard door for the Escape 21 on the street side is very large, bigger than normal. In addition the bed lifts up and is on a hinge from the inside. The curb side dinette is small due to the batteries, but if you go with the "U" option and put the converter on the street side, the entire back is available for long items under the rear dinette.

I wish I had added a second door for access under the bed. I added a slide out shoe storage mod that comes out the first door. The under mattress door is well. . . well its there. A second door facing the bathroom/entrance door would be nice to be able to throw things in. Sort of like the door under the curb seat on the 19, but not quite as convenient.
By the way, an unnamed party nixed my idea. Now that same individual says it would be nice.

We use the second door inside under the bed a lot. We never lift the mattress to get into there.

Boy you better hope that "unnamed" individual doesn't decide to start reading the forum...

Paul, you could get the door from Escape, and with a wee bit of framing work gain this second access point, and you might earn some brownie points with this unnamed individual.

Cathy is right! That under-bed corner/side is difficult to access. I recently added the second door myself for much better access. I wish I had added it to our build sheet.

We got three doors and I would do it again. I can certainly find use for whatever available space we can get.

I asked for a door on the passenger side rear of my future 21 and was told "no".

Do you have a U-shaped dinette? If not, the batteries are there. Or is that just with the 5.0TA?

Hi Fred
We have three hatch doors on our 19 and the interior door on the under dinette storage too.
We do not have the detachable power cord so I screened off the under bed area with a little framing and some heavy duty plastic pet screen to "cage" the cord as I feed it in. The cord stays in the area behind the water heater. Never gets tangled. Access your storage area without lifting the bed or cushions. Works for us. Thanks Jack

We got the second under-bed door, near the bath, and use it all the time. My small bag just fits, so I stow my jammies and toiletries there. In the standard door is a bin that holds canned goods and other heavy food stuff (that I don't want to stash overhead). I agree with Cathy about it being way too much trouble to access the under bed storage from the top (that mattress is heavy and moving it is awkward).
Even with the batteries under the curbside bench, there is still some storage available there, but I can appreciate that it's not significant enough to warrant external access. For what it's worth, we added external access to the street side bench, and haven't yet needed/used it for anything.

Lifting mattress to get under there is a pain. Always used the door below.

I used a broken broom handle to hold it up.

With the battery box on the passenger side of the 21 I think trying to put an exterior hatch aft of that would be so far back that you'd run out of flat wall and be into the rear corner curve of the fiberglass.

We are signing off on build sheet very soon (21'). We want exterior hatches on PS and DS in the back of the trailer to access the rear bench and we want no obstructions across the rear bench - like a pass-through from side to side. Anyone know if this Is this possible? Anyone have a 21' with u-shape dinette that can share pics of what it looks like under the benches? If easier, you can email me at lisamballi@gmail.com.
Thanks everyone - you guys rock!

Hi Bill and Lisa,
We have a 1st Generation 21 with the U-Shape Dinette. As Charlie said, with the standard dinette, the batter(ies) go under the passenger side bench. With the U-Shape Dinette, the batter(ies) go under the rear bench, along with the converter and surge protector. This leaves No room for any storage under the real bench. These aren't the best photos for showing the equipment under the rear bench, but you get the idea:
