Sad situation all the way around. It’s difficult to think about the dire straits everyone is in there, including the Escape families.

It looks like things just went from bad to worse.

Highways 1, 3, 5 and 7 are totally shut down and in several places gone.

The Frasier River floodplains are totally shut off from the rest of Canada. The images coming out of there are shocking. It looks like it could take months to restore road systems and local commerce. I don't think this rain system is done by any means yet.

This looks bad.

I talked to Linda last night . All the employees are safe but some can’t get to work due to highway closures. The factory itself is safe n dry.

Not Escape…but

Just down from Escape on the closed Hwy #1 is another RV dealership and is up in fire this morning. It is completely surrounded by the flood and fire crews can’t get closer than the one truck in the red circle. The fire is wide spread on the lot as indicated by both arrows. Very toxic fumes filling the air with people not easily able exit the area.

My wife and I arrived in Sumas this past Sunday to get a Covid test on Monday, visit the ETI facility on Tuesday and accept delivery of our 21C on Wednesday.

We had been following the weather reports for the area, but didn’t learn of the level of flood risk for Sumas until we arrived and checked in to the Lodge above Bob’s Burger & Brew. By then the risk of turning back was greater than riding out the flood event in the Lodge.

By Monday morning, the creek behind Bob’s overflowed and began flooding the parking lot. I managed to get our Jeep GC out of the lot and found the last bit of high ground in Sumas to leave it. I left it with the air suspension on the highest off road setting.

All of the vehicles owned by the other 13 folks who had checked in were left to get the brunt of the flooding with some having water running at windshield level for some 18 hours. Our Jeep was untouched by water.

When I drove out of the parking lot, the water was about 4”. By the time I started walking back to the lodge, I was facing some 250 yards of rising water that was at 2 feet by the time I made it to the back steps of the Lodge. I might be getting a bit too old for this kind of stuff.

We were without food for the duration, heat and electricity for most of the time and were unable to leave the 2nd floor until this morning. We are now in Spokane.

Chilliwack appears safe, but all roads used for trailer transport are out if service. There were 5 deliveries scheduled for this week. All are on hold.

We are heading to Alberta via Missoula, MT. Gonna wait this out with friends and try to come back through Abbotsford and into Sumas when ETI can resume trsnsport.

Been quite an experience.

I'm very glad that y'all are safe, your Jeep being spared is icing on the cake.

Yep, it sounds like you had a bit of a trying adventure but with a good attitude and recognition it could have been worse / this too shall pass (good for you )

Thanks for sharing, I hope your delivery can happen soon and uneventfully. As I'm sure with you too, our thoughts are with those who are faring less fortunately in this terrible event - hoping the best for those folks.

Thanks, that’s good news, for them as well as me. We have a 19 due to be finished in a couple weeks. Good to know it probably did not float away.

Glad to hear you are OK. Your experience in Sumas sure puts the worry of being able to get a COVID test in perspective! Stay safe.

I was out midday and came home planning to move the trailer (aka only warm place after 54 hrs without power) back into the garage, but that rain hit and was so heavy I couldn't see to back. Which worked out okay as yesterday we got actual sun and the batteries charged fully before I backed it in.
