Florida Public records release
We both received this email in the last 2 days. Looks like someone is getting a lot of information on State park visitors. The way our laws are written they have to notify us in case we are exempt. You out of state folks may not get any notification.
Unfortunately we can't opt out as we do not meet the qualifications. Yet another reason to give as little info as possible in open records states like ours.
You are receiving this email because you are a Florida Resident and visited an award-winning Florida State Park within the past five years.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recently received a public records request pursuant to Florida’s Public Records Law (Article I, section 24, Florida Constitution and Chapter 119, Florida Statutes) for names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of all Florida residents visiting a Florida State Park in the past five years. Florida’s broad Public Records Law, in the absence of an exemption, applies to all materials received by a State agency in connection with official business. Therefore, we are obligated to release the requested information unless an exemption applies.
Your address and telephone number may be exempt from public records disclosure under Section 119.071(4)(d), Florida Statutes, if you are a current or former law enforcement officer, other covered employee, or the spouse or child of one. If your information is exempt under this or any other applicable Statute and you wish to maintain the exemption please select the link below before May 15, 2017 so we can redact the exempt information.

The key words are "Florida residents." Having worked at one of Florida's Water Management Districts, I am no stranger to public records requests. I got the same email due to my stay at Highlands Hammock for Scamp Camp. I would suspect someone is trying to determine the amount residents use the State Parks. I don't believe anyone should be paranoid as a result of it. The Sunshine Law. That's why it is called the Sunshine State. Of course, it could also be called "God's Waiting Room!

Not a scam. A lawyer in Tallahassee requested the records, so the state had to notify anyone affected.

I received this email as well; I'm pretty sure it's legit. I stayed in a Florida state park earlier this year.
The state park service might be trying to determine how many Floridians are camping vs. people from out of state. You can reserve a spot eleven months in advance, and within days of the first eligible reservation dates a campground will fill up. I think many of these reservations are made by northerners and (ahem) Canadians. I wrote the park service and suggested that some be set aside for Floridians. So blame me.

"You are receiving this email because you are a Florida Resident".
They already seem to know who are residents ( likely from tag ).
