Are you pretty much loaded and ready for camping?

Is the 4981 number including the pin or just axle weight?

Alf, you are not supposed to be in the trailer when weighing it.....

If the total weight were 4981 + 748 = 5729 pounds, then Doug's trailer would be overweight, meaning over the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (5500 lbs currently, perhaps less in earlier years). I think it's safe to assume that Doug has not overloaded his Escape, and that the 4981 pounds is total (i.e. including the pin weight), so there must be 4981 - 748 = 4233 pounds on the axles. Also, 748 lb is only 15% of the total if the total is 4981 lb, not 5729 lb.

I know how the math works, I merely wanted a verification of what the numbers were. Most weights are when hooked up versus disconnecting and remeasuring, this makes the world of difference as you know!

Doug,
Can you clear up your numbers you posted yesterday, did you disconnect to get these weights or were these numbers while connected to your tow vehicle?

Yes loaded to the max including full fresh water and propane tanks. So basically 5000 lbs total trailer weight.
Running at 15% pin weight.

These number were connected, but would be within a few pounds of dropping the trailer on the scale as I have done in the past. Technically the numbers should be the same but there’s always that old + or - adage.

So the 7xx pin weight was over the truck axles and the 49xx weight was over the trailer axles while hooked up, correct?

Jim over the axles was 4233 lbs.

748 lbs pin weight + 4233 lbs trailer axle weight = 4981 lbs total trailer weight.

Okay, that makes sense and thanks for clarifying the 4981# is the combined number.
