Glacier weather

Seems like mother nature is playing games, Logan Pass in Glacier got 14" snow and St Mary's CG is closed due to snow? Heavy snow and rain is threatening flood waters now. Whodathunkit

A spring deluge that has dumped nearly 5 inches of rain and more than a foot of snow in parts of Glacier National Park has tourists seeking cover and rivers spilling over their banks from the mountain runoff.

The storm has pounded northern Montana over the past two days, and the National Weather Service issued a flood warning Wednesday for a broad swath of territory from the northern Rocky Mountain Front to east of Cut Bank.

A winter storm warning was issued for higher elevations, and more than 14 inches of snow had already fallen at the Sperry Chalet in the park east of Lake McDonald, Glacier spokeswoman Denise Germann said.

Three to 6 inches of additional rain was expected to fall through Thursday, along with another 4 to 8 inches of snow at elevations above 6,500 feet, forecasters said.

Just returned from two weeks in Yellowstone and the Tetons where we had a bit of rain every day/night. While some days (or nights) the rain was light, a few days we had full blown afternoon thunderstorms. (One morning, we even awoke to a dusting of snow.) Forecasts were for unsettled weather until this weekend when the temps are supposed to rise into the 80's. Strange weather indeed.

Hi: CADreamin... WE wanted to see the Tetons after 2 days in Yellowstone... But a chance look at the weather map on The Weather Network gave us just cause to "Run for the border". Alf

Hi Alf - Sorry you ended up missing the Tetons as the wildflowers were amazing. We managed to get there on Saturday and had decent weather for two days before it all went "south" (which is why we "escaped" early Tuesday morning). That said, I'm here to attest that six people in a 19' (four adults, two children) eating dinner and playing games while sitting out a thunderstorm can be rather enjoyable . Hope you had a good journey home.

May and June are the wettest months of the year here in MT and yes, snow is not unusual! We are all thrilled to get the moisture although E Glacier didn't need it. Too many years of drought. Snows also closed the Beartooth Highway out of Cooke City 2 days ago! Glad all visiting with their trailers were safe and on high ground!

Yup. A friend of mine in Kalispell, MT said that winter came the other day as he was going home from work.
