Yes, I read years ago that in Soviet Russia essentially everything was credited to someone with the same name (Popov, perhaps?)... presumably generations of the same fictional family.

Esso gas station at the mall near me has "HYDROGEN" in huge letters on its sign. Have not stopped to investigate, or shoot a pic.

Actually, we've warmed up. 23°F right now, but it is snowing. Had to use a roof rake on the Escape...

There are only two cities on Canada with hydrogen filling stations for vehicles - you're in one of them. Run out and buy a Toyota Mirai or Hyundai Nexo if you want to try it
B.C. has a history of supporting hydrogen vehicles, and is building a larger set of stations... seven more to come, beyond the existing three in the Vancouver area (downtown, Burnaby, and North Van).
Trying to find fuel to drive anywhere on hydrogen makes finding a fast EV charging station look really easy.

Yup, I know. Covered many events featuring Premier Gordon Campbell and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announcing the "Hydrogen Highway" from California to Whistler, B.C.

The carriage house at Villa Montalvo, in Saratoga, CA, had a turntable so a dozen vehicles could be parked in stalls around it. That's long gone and it's now a performing arts theater. I don't think turntables were uncommon, they even used them in railyards for storing engines

Btw, currently the primary source for hydrogen is cracking methane, and stripping the 2 H2's off the C (carbon). No idea what they do with that carbon.

We had a locomotive service roundhouse with a turn table out In front of it in my home town in Cedar Rapids. It was still in service when I was a kid. It was owned by the Rock Island

The carbon is produced as carbon dioxide, and normally it it just exhausted to the atmosphere; yes, that makes the whole hydrogen fuel scheme useless for environmental purposes. There are proposals to capture the CO2 and "sequester" it, which typically means pumping it into an underground location.

All of the information I could find about Baker electrics suggested that they had reverse (by the method that I mentioned), so I suspect that the turntable was put in for a different vehicle, or just to save the driver from having to reverse.
Different vehicle technologies do require accommodations. At some point a generation of kids won't believe that our home garages didn't have charging stations, or that we went to public stations and poured volatile fuel into our vehicles. Well, they might believe the fuel part, if liquid fuels derived from plant material ever become viable (and yes, I know about ethanol and biodiesel, but the world really can't run on either of those).

Good luck with hydrogen fueled vehicles. Hydrogen is a medium for energy storage, but it has to be created. Simple enough...we can get all we want from water. But it takes energy, usually electricity, and a lot of it, to produce electrolysis to get the hydrogen produced.
And then there's the quirks of hydrogen. In piping it, hydrogen chews up metal by embrittlement. It is the smallest and simplest element, and even metal does not stop it's movement out of a pipe. In practical terms, that doesn't matter. My point is, it is a much different animal than fossil fuels. You HAVE to MAKE it, (not pump it out of the ground like oil) and then compress it enough to store it. And storage of hydrogen in a vehicle is another problematic issue. You just can't plop some hydrogen gas or liquid into a tank.
It can all be done technically, but its use in mass consumer markets, it will be an interesting experiment.
We do use it to power rocket ships effectively.
Maybe there's some gee whiz solution.

Yes, drove cars with 3 on the tree and a FIAT with 4 on the tree as well. I drove many cars with 3 on the floor, mostly Fords and Dodges from the 30's. Also cars with nothing on the tree or floor, just 3 pedals (Model T Fords). The Model T's and the 30's vehicles were not new by the way!

There is indeed some motive power in that category. Union Pacific's recently restored Big Boy 4-8-8-4 articulated steam locomotive uses recycled vegetable oil as fuel to boil the water to make steam to generate the roughly 6000 HP to do work!!!
And it's found at the UP Steam Shop next to one of the last operating 130 ft. railroad turntables.

True.
Forget column shifters - most people can't drive with any manual transmission even if they once could, and many younger drivers have never even tried.
One of the features of EVs is that multiple transmission ratios are generally not needed, and even in the rare vehicle that uses them (the Porsche Taycan has a two-speed for the rear only), it only makes sense for the shifting to be automatic.
