What connection or item has failed?

Good luck on the repair.

It's leaking out of the vent holes where the motor attaches to the pump body .

Bummer, on some other types of pumps that would indicate a leaking seal between the pump and the motor. Again, on some other types of pumps the seal and/or bearing is replaceable. Don't know about the Escape pump but I'll be looking at mine to see if a replacement seal to carry as a spare is an option.

I took it apart and there are two diaphragms It looks like the closest to the motor is leaking , seems to be part of piece that has the bearing in it

Good, glad to hear that it's available at a store like Home Hardware.

Have a good trip.

I had the factory installed water pump fail last summer. Managed to find a replacement immediately, and ETI eventually paid for it under warranty, but the take-home lesson for me is to just carry a spare water pump, as opposed to the parts that might fail. Far easier to swap out the entire unit and worry about what failed later, and it's really not that expensive.

Question then. Do you leave the pump turned on or do you just turn it on when you need it to pump water?
I turn mine on when I need it and turn it off, and it's still fine after six years. Could leaving it on cause wear? I wouldn't think so, since it doesn't appear to do anything until you open a tap.

Maybe. I carried a spare water pump for 30+ years and never needed it. Finally parked it at home in my shop.

Have to say that it was really nice to have the water working for a hot shower after two nights at berg lake in mount Robson .

Most manufacturers say that it doesn't extend the life of the pump one way or another. But, I think it might be a good idea to turn it off when you're going to leave the trailer unattended, or at night. I had a friend who left it on all the time. On one trip while he was away, a fitting under the sink came loose. The pump thought he had the tap on, so the pump kicked in. He returned to having no water in the tanks -- and all of it on the floor of the trailer!

I agree. The pump does nothing and suffers no wear if there is no power applied, and which switch is stopping the power doesn't matter.

Nothing to do with wear, but for entirely different reasons this is an excellent point:

It can also be annoying if the pump comes on briefly while you are sleeping to restore pressure if the check valve is not perfect. Turning the pump switch off when leaving the trailer or going to bed makes sense to me.

That will likely be my destiny as well! It struck me when it happened, however, that I was lucky to have been in reasonable range of buying a replacement, and what a PITA it could have been otherwise. I also stocked up on a few spare plumbing parts that could come in handy.
