Exclamation Help Us Name the New Escape 5.0 Tandem Axle

The Title Says it All.

Here at Escape Trailer Industries we are having some serious discussions over the name for the new Escape 5.0 Tandem Axle Fifthwheel. We have had a few suggestions but nothing seems to really be jumping out at us.

So....Why not poll our best resource? YOU We would love some feedback from the forum on What Name(s) you think will be best suited for the new Escape 5.0 Tandem Axle Fifthwheel.

Some considerations are:

Just to leave it as the Escape 5.0 as the new Fifthwheel will be replacing the old fifthwheel.

Escape 5.00
Escape 5.2
Escape 5TA

Thank you in advance for your opinions.

Reace and Tammy.

5TA is already in common use on the forum but, if you ever come out with a different version it is not easily named.
5.2 implies that there was a 5.1...

But, 5.1 gives you room to continue adding 'versions' and retains the use of 5.0 for the original 5er.
So my vote is 5.1

My vote is for 5TA, but have to agree with Fran & Dave, 5.1 does give you options in the future.

The problem I see with following 5.0 with 5.1 is that, except for some diehard bitheads, normal people would assume "1" means the first, and this is the second... so I get the logic of "5.2"

A challenge with reflecting the fifth-wheel design in the model designation as "5.0" is that the 5 is likely to be assumed to be a version, which it's not. As soon as people think that way, any convention gets in trouble... I would want to lose the dot, even if it was an amusing spin on "web 2.0".

The rest of the Escape models are named just by length... and in feet at that, which makes sense in the U.S., and quite not as much sense here. The fifth-wheel and conventional lines thus have inconsistent approaches. Maybe a solution is to put the length back in, but keep the "5" in some way. "5/20" (for a 20-foot fifth-wheel), or "5/615" (for a 6.15 metre fifth-wheel) to start a new metric convention as used in Europe (and on the old Trillium 4500 and 5500), for instance.

"TA" could be tacked on the end, but the other models don't currently do that... its a "19 Foot", not a "19TA". Model names can easily get overly complicated.

If you use nothing but TA to distinguish the new one from other fifth-wheels - so the new one is "5TA" - what do you do for the next fifth-wheel, whether it is a replacement or an additional size? It would also be a "5" and "TA".

I guess I would suggest something like "5/615", but I only know what makes sense to me, not what makes sense to or attracts others.

True, but not necessarily a big deal.

You have likely heard of Boeing's 707, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777... but what about "717"? No one cared that it was "missing" (although it was used for a military transport and informally for an airliner that was sold as the 720), and I doubt few noticed when this available number was assigned to the old DC-9 after Boeing bought it, completely out of order of the Boeing model sequence. I would notice the missing number in sequence; I doubt it would bother most normal people.

If you had a 5.0, I would go for the next number, 5.1. Don't over-think it... KISS...

After being in high tech too long, I'd look at 5.1 as the first revise of the 5 series, 5.0 being the original of the line, which it is. If you were to have both single and double axles at the same time you could add the TA or SA suffixes, as it stands that would not be necessary.

Of course you could call it a 5.1 Shangri-La, or 5.1 Ritz, so it'd sound sexy and you could charge more.

I like two options.

5.1 - My favourite. As is is the first revision of the fifth wheel. Seems logical. Using 5.2 seems like you skipped a step (As Fran and Dave alluded to).

5.0 TA - Keeping calling it a 5.0 seems fairly natural, as that is what is already used. Adding the clarifier of TA would distinguish it from its predecessor.

5.1 seems the most logical. I too like the 'kiss' principle

5.1 gets my vote.

However, Escape21 5.0 or Escape 21/5 or Escape 21-5 or Escape 215.0 might be more descriptive.

This can quickly become more agonizing than finalizing a build sheet.

Technically speaking, the new fifth wheel falls between the 19 and 21. My 5.0 is 19' 6" and adding 8 to that makes it 20' 2". This being said, I like the 5 being representative of a fifth wheel, but the length makes it a 20. My vote is to christen her "The Escape 520". This will keep it in the development timeline as well since the 5th was born before the 21.
