There are only six Robinson R44's registered in all of Saskatchewan. If you're curious which one this was, and can find an image which is clear enough to read the registration marks on the side, you can look up the owner in the Canadian Civil Aircraft Register.

He's charged with "dangerous operation of an aircraft." What? Sounds like the worst danger was from flying dust that might have gotten into someone's eye. I'm sure the pilot looked before landing to make sure the landing site was clear. Seems like no harm done IMO.

I had forgotten about that! Would have worked if it had been in BC instead of Saskatchewan...

Only if the pilot was wearing a silly hat.

I got it right away... thought it was pretty good. Never met him but reading other posts of the legend made it easy for me to get it.

Great way to arrive at the Waffle House
Don't know about Canada, but in the US, if the pilot deems it safe you can land a helicopter just about anywhere as long as the pilot deems it safe and you're not trespassing.
I bet I visited dozens of Waffle Houses while riding in one.

I hope he was smart enough to have NOT bought a Robinson.

In Canada it is not permitted to just land any aircraft anywhere you want, although landing a helicopter on private property with permission (which was lacking in this case) where it is safe to do so (again not true in this case) is generally unrestricted.
In this case it was in a parking lot without the owner's permission (so it's trespassing) and the lot is in public use (so it's not safe) so it would not be acceptable even under those US rules.
People land helicopters away from airports and heliports every day. There are reasons that this stupidity made the news.

Oh, well, as long as we can still park Escapes in parking lots to get our ice cream and waffles, we're good!

While gathering watermelons in my dad's field (groan!) as a teenager in the early 1970s, my crew was surprised to see a large Navy helicopter land nearby. The crewmen brought out cases of soft drinks and we loaded them up with watermelons. Off they went.
