How does the spray foam insulation LOOK? Pics?

I'm looking for photos -- or good descriptions -- of how an Escape trailer looks with the factory-applied spray foam insulation. I've seen a couple of pics that show it a little bit...but not really representative. LIke, does someone have -- or maybe could shoot -- photos that show the appearance of the foam-y undercarriage when standing next to the trailer? And 20 feet away?

I'm really not the kind of guy who is too concerned with appearance -- function is way more important to me. Like, I'll drive my truck down a narrow brush-lined road and not worry about the scratched paint if I really want to go somewhere. But still...I'd like to know what to expect before I order my trailer with the spray foam insulation.
If it looks fine, not that noticeable, not an issue, then I'll almost certainly order it.
Thanks.

Standing back looking at the trailer the foam is not really noticeable. If you are standing right next to it, or looking under the trailer, it is - but it provides substantial insulation and protection. Here are photos of the trailer from a distance, an uninsulated fresh water tank (the ETI floor model) and our fresh water tank for comparison, and the black and gray drain pipes at the dump valve.

The foam is sprayed liberally on the fresh and gray tanks and provides a good thick layer of insulation. Another key spot is the drain pipes - they are well covered from the tanks right up to the dump valve. The orange insulation is painted black for appearance purposes. The large flat areas on the bottom of the shell / underside of floor don't show at all standing next to the trailer so that foam is not painted. From time to time the foam gets a few nicks and dings from road debris bouncing up and it's easy to just touch it up with black spray paint when that happens.

I am very happy with the spray foam insulation. Like you I go for function over form. But with the spray foam, I find that I don't notice it at all and I'm sure no one else does either because the trailer is so gorgeous and that's what you look at.

OK, so you guys make it sound like the appearance is not an issue -- it's acceptable. Good!
I've read some discussion -- and some disagreement -- about the need and effectiveness of the spray foam insulation. But I've seen very little -- maybe none -- that says, "..and it looks bad!". That's a good sign.
Thanks.

Well, I've posted before that I thought it was FUGLY. And although I think for most things function over form is great... but not if it's FUGLY. But then again, although I camp in shoulder seasons it's never terribly hot or below freezing for days on end. I worry more about wet than hot or cold.

So as a counterpoint with a caveat: on my last trip I drove 45 miles on fresh gravel. Just before the the trip, I got new AT tires on my truck. I did not realize that the new tires kicked up more gravel than the road tires I had on the truck before. End result: I drove too fast (45mph) for conditions and equipment. The gravel beat the crap out of the foam on the front. It looks terrible. I will need to spray some fresh foam and paint it again for it to look “good” again.

The up side? The foam protected the tanks. So in my mind sacrificial foam is worth it. It is dark now so I will post Picts tomorrow.

The foam is standard for the 2020 model year.

We have a 2020 trailer. Spray foam was optional (we did get it). We did order in late 2019 though. Wasn't on the standard list then.
I think the spray foam is a little unattractive, if you are looking right at it, but I'm sure we will be happy we have it.

Originally it was not black but yellow, on my 2012. Then they started coating it black in 2014. The color out of the machine is yellow and then they paint it black.

It is all a matter of preference. I am not a fan of the look myself, but do realize it keeps the floor feeling warmer in cold weather. I have been in hot weather without it, and the floor is just fine, as no sun shines on the bottom of the trailer.

Someday, when life is just not so darn busy, I do plan on installing some 2" rigid inside the frame to add a bit of comfort warmth on evenings when we take off the footwear.

Still, it is a good option for many.

But several other owners have remarked that the foam keeps the trailer cooler by not allowing the heat from the pavement, pad, ground, rocks from radiating to the inside just as it keeps the cold from penetrating from the outside. I feel it also makes the interior quieter also. So protection, sound , insulation, are some of the benefits.

Our 2018 Escape 21 has the underfloor spray insulation and it is exposed yellow foam not black!
I bought 4 cans of spray rubberized undercoating and as soon as we get a warm day I plan on pulling the trailer out onto the driveway and coating the foam .

The spray foam does cut down on noise and does keep the floor a little warmer but I am not convinced the cost is justified by the rewards

The newer way of insulating walls, combined with dual glazed windows really cuts down on noise coming from the sides. I too do not believe the cost (and as mentioned for me the looks) justify the cost.

All I can say Steve, your unit may have missed quality control. both the 2014 and 2016 plus 2019 all were/are black!
